Default Gmail

I need to set up a new email account as my current work address has started to recieve quite a bit of spam and so I would like to remove it from all my web based profiles (i.e. no MSN, Calgarypuck, etc.). I have used Hotmail before and hated it and we only have one email address on our home account which my wife uses. so I was wondering if any GMAIL users could provide me with A) the benefits of GMAIL versus Hotmail and B) an invite (Email is in my profile). I know invites have become quite common so i was wondering if GMAIL has gone the way of Hotmail yet...1 real message, 3 pages of spam, and also what are the storage limits and incoming/outgoing file size restrictions?

I've been using gmail for 7 months now, and have yet to receive ONE piece of junk mail...
Love gmail.

But there has been some issues logging in lately. Anyone else with that prob?

And wait til MYK sees this thread. He posted something awhile back that had all kinds of useful tips about gmail. Actually, that was what caused me to switch.
Well done, MYK.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any invites available? Also any idea on the file size limits?

Yea, I've got a few. I'll send one your way.

I don't knwo about file size limits, but .............. Hold on, I think I do know. There is something on the main page, a number, that is constantly increasing. I think that is the storage capacity or file size limit. Anyway, it's 2900 megs or gigs or something.

Ah, ok, no I don't know.

I will send.

I don't know what the file size limit is, but I emailed my friend a 15M file once. I remember because I didn't think it would work, but it did without issue.

I have 100 invites if you need one.

You do get spam in a gmail account but 99% of it ends up in the spam folder and you never have to look at it.

As in terms of benefits, the biggest one is storage. I think they're getting close to 3 gigs now, which is ridiculous. They also use labels instead of folders to organize your mail. You can apply multiple labels to the same message if you want and then archive it. Plus being google, your mail is quickly and easily searchable (which means its indexed, so don't use gmail for secure stuff such as credit card numbers are such).

It also has other cool features such as a calendar you can share with your friends (I share one with some friends about concert dates for acts coming to town). And you can send out invites to particular events (and it works if someone sends you an invite from Outlook).

There's more too but this is really starting to sound like an advertisement, so I'll stop

I think the attachment size limit for an individual email is 10MB; at least I've never been able to send one larger.

I've registered on enough pages with a gmail account that I get plenty of spam emails to the account but the built in junk mail filters are and stop nearly all of them from hitting my inbox.

Gmail is amazing.. The storage space is up to about 3 Gb I think.. thats insane.

I'm pretty sure the max msg limit is 10 mb, I could be wrong.
Spam filters works great.

Gmail is amazing. I used to use MS Outlook, but then I found Gmail much better. The key features that I like are: quick Google searches of your email and the discussion threads that automatically hide quoted text.

I can't imagine going back to Outlook or even worse, Hotmail.

I love the Google calendar too.

James.

And Gmail chat is a convenient way to get around MSN-bans in the officespace.
