Default Car Damaged

Well I came home from work yesterday to find the side of my wifes car pretty badly damaged on the rear passager side. There is a dent and scrape about 6 inches from top to bottom and it covers the entire rear fender (inclduding damaging the tail light).

We live in an area that is still in the middle of construction and we had to park our car on the street as they are replacing the sidewalks and gutters. I know that it was a white vehicle (probably a van or truck cause of the height of the damage), and I am pretty sure that it was a worker of some kind that did the damage. Well the ******* never left a number or anything to claim responsibilty. What should I do? Should I go talk to the sales manager at the show homes to see if he heard anything (I highly doubt that he did). It ****es me off cause it is probably around $1000 worth of damage and I don't really want to claim it or pay for it (the car is a 98 sunfire).

Anyone have any recomendations? Do I have to make a report?

Sorry to hear.

My brothers car was hit by someone who just took off and didn't leave any information.....and basically your screwed as far he found out. Really there is no way to track down who did, unless someone saw it. Even if you find someones car that had similar damage to your car, thats not really proof. I would go make file a claim with the police. You will need to do one if you want to claim it under insurance, but also there is a small chance that the police will solve it (not very likely).

But if the damage is under 1000 dollars its probably not worth it to go through insurance. Unless someone knows some other solution you are probably S.O.L.

Just go and do the same to someone else's car.....it'll make you feel better .

Bah...we had the same thing happen a few days ago. Not as bad damage, but a ****-off nonetheless.

I thought that type of thing doesn't affect your insurance rates, as it's something that isn't your fault.

If the insurance classifies the accident as a vandalism then I think your right and it doesn't affect your rates. But if they consider it a collision then I'm sure it affects your rates.

It doesn't effect your rate if it's a hit and run. BUT you will lose your no claim discount for 3 years.

I dont understand what is wrong with people? If you were stupid enough to drive into someone elses car, at least have the balls to let them know so that the money doesnt have to come out of the other persons pocket.

I know that if I see a white truck/van driving around with a purple strip on it, I will be just a little perturbed

But to answer your question- you bet I'd talk to the sales manager. The worst case is he will do nothing, and he may even be able to spot the vehicle. I'd also file a police report.

Evergreen is brutal for the construction hit and runs. People in my condo wouldn't park their second vehicles on the street for the longest time because of it and so visitor parking was always full with resident cars and it was just a nightmare.

That sucks... For a cheaper alternative to a body shop you could try colorworks.ca

We get them to do bumpers and stuff for us at the dealership. Fairly cheap and they do great work... They actually will come and do it in your yard.

Well I talked to a neighbour last night and he saw who did it, and he even talked to the person that did the damage. Sounds like they will be in contact with me, and guess what, it was a construction worker.

Thanks for all the help everyone

Another update.

I spoke with my insurance company and they recomended that I report this to the police as a Hit and Run as they never tried to leave a contact number with my car after the incident. I have still yet to hear from the company (it is quite a large company).
