Thank God my motorbike only holds 12 liters. That gets me around for a whole week.
I keep on putting off the new car, and waiting for gas prices to go down.

I just filled up for $1.019 at Centext on 16th avenue. Glad to know I saved 20 cents a litre I guess!

I'm not sure how much you plan on them going down. Like what do you mean, 20, 30 cents? Possibly. But that's probably even stretching it.
If your not buying a car because you think there will be some sort of reverse in the current trend in gasoline prices...
you won't be buying a car. Ever.

I was in Abbotsferd (sp?) this weekend and gas was going for $1/litre, figured by the time I got back to Alberta it would be well under that. Was most suprised to find out it was 1.08/1.10/litre. Whats up with that?

Eh, the thing is that I don't really need a car so it's not killing me. The gas prices are just another excuse to put it off.

^^ well thats true. Cars are expensive *******s. And for some reason the nazi regime that is parking in this city has lept to astonishingly unreasonable levels.
$25? PER DAY!!!!! "But it's incentive for people to take mass transit" they say...
Well that's great and all, but then why does our mass transit still blow? When over 1/5 of the city uses the train everyday... why does it suck so bad? Seriously. Brutal.

I think the idea is to make parking expensive to dissuade people from driving downtown. If parking were $12, but traffic was twice as bad, would it be worth it? I don't mind the idea... though I'm not sure if thats the actual reasoning behind it or not.

The Summers are great, I zip around on my bike and find free parking all over the city. I pay $240 a year for insurance and basically throw spare change into my gas tank.
In the Winter I walk 15 minutes past the closest bus stop to catch a bus with less people. Nothing worse than a packed bus, ugh.

Well if it isn't- then it's pretty much robbery.

I had heard that oil prices rose over $75 a barrel today, I'm guessing that's what's driven the price of gas up.

Exactly, I've started running hoem from work every 2nd day. 8.8 kms, quite a run but I don't have to work out when I get home and also save the $2.25 fare.
I'm a cheap basterd.

Why is this causing such high gas prices. The Oil is priced in US dollars, ehich has fallen by nearly 50% to the Canadian dollar. Oil really hasn't gained that much in terms of Canadian prices, and gasoline shouldn't be costing this much.

Well... since its a frivolous luxury (for most), it sort of makes sense that its high priced. Seriously, if parking was $12, but it took an hour to exit downtown because everyone is driving in, would it be worth it?

Hooray for walking to work! I only drive about 8,000km a year because of that.
Let's see...
8,000km
About 9L/100km in my current 4 cyl car (2.2L)
Average price of gas, ~$1.05
= $756 a year
A couple years back, a guy in our office used to drive in from Red Deer every day to work. His vehicle of choice? Chevy Avalanche. I think he was paying $200 every 3-4 days for gas, and that was when gas was cheap! Hell, he could have bought a condo here and paid monthlies with that!.
