Default The End Game for Al Queda in Iraq seems to be near!

Certainly whether democracy will hold is still up in the air. With the Sunnis turning on them in greater numbers, with less and less bombings aimed at the Americans, and with more and more Sunni groups becoming involved with the government.....it certainly looking like Al Queda is increasingly seeing it's best days behind them.

I'm experiencing a sensation like we've been down this road before. I think it's called... deja vu.

Well, cheers if it's true.

Didn't read it did we? I know it is long but try to get a couple of paragraphs in before commenting.

As well...I didn't say Insurgency. I said Al Queda. They are 2 different entities.

And with the Russian hit squad on its way to Iraq to deal with those that beheaded their countrymen I'd say Al Queda is in a whole heapful of trouble. Do you think they will have much trouble finding those responsible? I sure don't. The Sunnis will offer them up on a platter to the Russians. The Russians will remind terrorists worldwide why they only had one kidnapping in Bierut way back in the 80's.

As for the rest of Iraq I know it doesn't look like Calgary's 2006 Stanley Cup parade by any means. But with more Sunnis becoming involved in the government, and 16 insurgency groups taking the goverments offer to lay down their arms things are slowly turning for the better.

Very true--almost makes one wonder why in your post you noted that with

I mean--the domestic insurgency is mostly Iraqi Sunnis, right? What do they have to do with Al-Qaeda, whose presence in Iraq somewhat postdates the U.S. invasion?

With that said, I hope you're right. Too many kids have lost their lives over there already. Maybe there finally is a light at the end of the tunnel.

It should be pointed out that there wasn't an Al-Queda presence in Iraq until AFTER the war.

And that there was resistence fighting in Iraq after the war but before Al Queda.

Al Queda grew because America allowed it to, but it was never the target in Iraq so its defeat, while nice, is not really relevant. There are far harder goals in Iraq that are far from being achieved.

Good point.

Defeating Al Qaeda in Iraq only means getting back to square one... or just a notch below square one.

(Square one would be getting the rebuilding near complete).

Well to ask these questions means you neither read what I linked to and you have had your head in the sand for the last 5 years.

My point is that there have been plenty of asessments and predictions about the violence in Iraq and as of yet no one has been right.

It's not a situation that lends itself to accurate outside analysis.
