Default Superman Returns

The new Superman flick is opening tonight. Post your reviews here! Is it a must see theatre experience? A renter? No spoilers though! I'm watching it tomorrow night myself (the gf works tonight...), and I can't wait!

I'll be seeing it tonight--I'm doing a review for the local paper in Iowa City. I'll post a link if there's any interest, but it won't be up until Thursday at the earliest.

I think it looks really corny. Of course Superman was always my least favourite super hero.

Meh, Superman is pretty lame.

What's next Wonder Woman Returns?

From what I'm hearing from even die-hard supporters of Singer, the pacing is all wrong and it's goofy with references to the last Superman movie and also the kid makes it clumsy.

I still think the new costume looks bad. It should have been this:

Didn't this movie cost like $260 million to make? I think that's what imdb.com said. If so, that must rank it up with one of the most expensive movies ever made.

Wonder if it's worth it.

79% freshness rating on rottentomatoes.com. That's pretty good and most the reviews I have seen are pretty positive.

According to boxofficemojo.com your right it is $260 million. That's a ton when you factor in that there is no A list actor getting paid $20-30 million dollars.

I saw it last night--just finished my review. I didn't think it was too bad for a summer blockbuster, but Superman is a rather old-fashioned superhero in the end.

As for the costume--you kind of can't win with it. Singer tried to make the cape look cooler by having it be made of leather, but that really just emphasizes the problem with the cape. Which is "why the @#$& is he wearing a cape?!?!?"

Ebert hated it though.

www.cinephilemagazine.com has great reviews too.

Not necessarily new releases (although sometimes there are) but tons of reviews and they are increasing everyday. Great if you like older movies too.

I'm a fan of David Edelstein, who does review for the New Yorker and also for Slate.com. He's not too highbrow in his tastes, but knows quality when he sees it.

For what it's worth, he hated Superman Returns--he calls it "Man of Stale."

I have never seen an episode or a Superman movie before last night, and I gotta say... it wasn't bad.

I am still a diehard Batman fan, but I enjoyed it. Although it seemed to be rather long.

Kevin Spacey is awesome as Lex Luther!

Superman is the stalest of all heros. He is impervious to pain and practically indestructible to anything except kryptonite. There aren't alot of different story arcs you can do with the character...

exaclty, Hollywood thinks throwing 200 million on special effects is enough to make up for a movie having hardly any plot, character development and bad acting.

All the new Star Wars, the last 2 Matrix movies, and countless other ones are like this.

I agree. He is too much of boy scout and goodie two shoes. I just can't relate to Clark Kent or Superman as a character. He has no real world problems. Maybe they have changed him, but I have never followed Superman for these reasons.

I will probably see this movie at imax. Superman was my favorite hero as a kid, so it's a must I see it.

I am not surprised F&F Tokyo Drift is getting good reviews. The drifting scene is about to explode in North America. It's very exciting to watch and very exciting to participate in.

it was awesome. jaw-dropping effects sequences and, as you'd expect with any bryan singer movie, great direction.

ebert, for what it's worth, lost all credibility when he gave that Black Honeymooners movie a good review
