Default Spider-Man 3 Trailer

Or is that teaser? I'm never quite sure. Anyway, it's awesome:

May 4, 2007 can't come soon enough.

It looks cool but it sort of reminds me of that Batman movie when there were about 15 villains.

Anyone else think the Superman movie looks a little lame? It's getting quite good reviews, though. Something about the commercials are pretty cheesy though, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't the mega-hit they're predicting.

"your insane"

"no no the other one"

"SUPER MAN WILL..."

"WRROOOOOOOONNNNG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Classic. Hilarious.

I cant take that actor seriously, whats his name Kevin Spacey or something?

That's the problem with Superhero movies, most people who direct them aren't familar with the material or want to go on their own tangent.

From reports, Raimi doesn't have Spider-Man in the black symbiote suit with the white spider on it (that later becomes Venom), instead it's just the normal costume but dark colored. That totally sucks.

As for Kevin Spacey, he's playing Lex Luthor as Gene Hackman played Lex Luthor - an overthetop campy villain which unfortunately is a relic of the 1978 movie and doesn't belong here or in the character. But as it's sort of a faux sequel I suppose it works. But still, it's a campy Luthor with a bunch of comical henchmen and an annoying lady companion following him around instead of Lex Luthor the vicious evil scientist/executive. Sort of a Cancer-Man with money that he is in the comics.

Both look very lame. Bryan Singer, who directed the new Superman reportedly told a convention room full of fans that he had never read a Superman comic prior to directing the movie. That is a serious problem right there...but you know what? Even if these movies aren't true to the actual comics, people will still flood to them not knowing any better or even care. Studios will make their money, and we'll keep getting movies like this.

Looks pretty good

Then again, I much prefered the first Spider-man, as opposed to the sequel, Spider-man 2

I just ruined my shorts. Venom has been my favourite comic book character for quite some time... Can't wait to see the symbiote <sp?> on the big screen.

Yeah but that only makes sense because the studios are in it for the money. If they marketed/made films for only the comic-book set they wouldn't make any money.

I'm not feeling this... The black suit is slick and all but I just really hate this franchise.

Interesting points but I would take the opposing view. It seems to me that whether it is comic books or any beloved literature its better when the director doesn't know the material as it forces him to tell the story rather than just assuming fan boys will fill in the blanks. I believe in all of the cases the director was not familiar with the source material:
- LOTR
- Xmen
- The New Batman series

Ultimately I think a guy like Singer is a good director and that's what often determines the quality of the film, not whether or not he was a fan of the comics growing up. Case in point - the chump they got to direct Xmen 3 (his name escapes me) is just a bad director which is why the movie is apparently not as good as the first couple.

Peter Parker ditches it when he realises that the alien symbiote is trying to take over his body permanently. Eddie Brock finds it and his hatred combined with the symbiote's hatred for Peter Parker magnifies.

I wonder if Cletus Kassidy makes an appearance in this movie. Anyone know?

Peter finds out that the suits weakness is sound, and goes to a church bell. The suit leaves Peter after a few gongs. I believe Eddie is just walking by when he finds the suit.

Atleast, that's how they explained it in the 90s cartoon.

Here's the story behind Venom. I don't know it all that well, myself.

I don't understand people being so upset about Raimi "changing" things between the comic book and the movies. The Venom story, in its comic book form, is something that is completely out of place in Spider-Man's world. It's an ALIEN SYMBIOTE. Spider-Man is not at its core a story about running off to different planets and such. That's the Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange and all them.

The Venom/Carnage story in the comics is actually fairly out of place. I really hope Raimi changes the story for the black suit/Venom and all that for the movies.

If the story in the comic is lame or in need of fixing, then of course I'm in favor of changes being made. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

I think that the thing to remember is that different mediums mean different ways of telling stories. We all know that great books do not always mean great movies - Lord of the Rings is an example where the books and the movies are both great, but the reason why is that the Peter Jackson decided to focus on the key essentials of the books and present great visuals. When you combine the visuals from the movie with detail of the books, you get a great over all story.

The problem with superhero movies is that the mythology of the stories is over several hundred (or more) comics. And every few years, the characters are reimaged. It is impossible to jam all of that into a two hour movie - all you can do is the essentials. And it is really hard if characters are not cast to what you imagine them to be (Bruce Wayne anyone?).

Although I really enjoyed X-Men, Spidey and Fantastic Four movies (I read the comics) it is almost easier to watch Batman and Superman as I am not as familiar with the mythos.

To be absolutely honest, the best media for comic book superheros is in, well, comic books, because there is a surprising degree of freedom both from a time perspective, but from what can be drawn versus what can be filmed - plus like books, your imagination is an important part of the comic book perspective.
