Default Summer and sun screen

This is for every one to listen but mostly for the parents out there in Flames land. It is summer again and time to put on sun screen. It just may save your life and if you are a parent it may save your childs life in the future after you are gone.

Everyone talks about it but many dont do it. For the parents out there get it on your kids now and make shure they understand why it is important.

My mother died of stage 4 melanoma. This means:

"The melanoma has spread beyond the original area of skin and nearby lymph nodes to other organs such as the lung, liver, or brain, or to distant areas of the skin or lymph nodes. Neither the lymph node status nor thickness is considered, but typically, the melanoma is thick and has also spread to lymph nodes. "

So you can have a bunch of fun in the sun in your early childhood and teens but the cancer can go internal with no sign what so ever. Then it can pop up and grow when your 60 or any age in between or after. From first detection to death my mother lasted 2 months. The melanoma can grow fast and spread fast. This all from summers at the lake in her childhood and teens with no lotion. Of course back then no one really used lotion. But there is no reason not to use it now a days. She was a redhead as well so melanoma just loves the untannable white skin.

So take the lotion out of the basket and put it on the skin. Best advice ever.

Buy the way this was a few years ago but a post at a different forum prompted me to get the word out. If you don't do it yourself, get it on your kids. And forget about the tanning beds, you might as well just smoke a pack or two a day.

My condolances for your loss, RW. Recent studies suggest that even sunscreen is only a mild combatant when it comes to skin cancer. SPF 45 is the way to go, but you should still be careful.

I meant to reply earlier on this one. My old neighbour died in May, due to complications from skin Cancer. Loved the outdoors, an avid hiker, golfer, etc. Lots of days at the lake, etc. I bathe in sunscreen anyway because of my pasty white complexion. 30+SPF. And be sure to re apply if you're out there a few hours. Sorry for your loss, Roger.
