Official "I Like Pie" thread for June 29
As requested in another thread, I also agree that we need a daily "I like pie thread."
In all seriousness, who do you think has the best pie in the city? Is it a restaurant, or a grocery store/ bakery?
The one thing I like is the apple pie from M&M Meats. You bake it yourself, and it is nummy!

Making a pie by yourself from scratch is the only way to go. I come from a long line of excellent pie-ers, including my mom who has a secret recipe for crust that back in the day netted her some first and second places at the Heritage Park pie contest.
I tried making a rhubarb one the other week. Yummm. Dutch Apple Pie is another really easy one to make.

not a big pie fan, lemon mirange would be about the only pie I like. Well that and a good pizza pie
Much prefer the strawberry shortcakes, nanimo bars, and cakes as desserts than pie. Icecream is another good dessert, Basked Alaska good too... hmmm now this thread, combined with the heat/humidity I want icecream

I quite like the small 4 inch Raspberry pies that you can find in the freezer of the Co-op bakery section. They take 45 minutes to bake from frozen and are dynamite with Foothills Creamery Vanilla Frozen Yogurt. Take note that these frozen pies used to be my ticket out of the dog house when I had a lapse of reason and behaved like a guy who wasn't married.
Incidentally, the Foothills Creamery Vanilla Frozen Yogurt tastes like cheesecake through some miracle of modern science. I didn't think it was possible without it being 100 calories a bite like cheesecake normally is.

So, it has none of the regular yogurt flavour to it?
I ask because just like Dark Helmet in Spaceballs, I hate yogurt.

HA! Nice!
My grandma's pies are legendary. She grew up (and still lives) in a small town and I guess you make pies as a kid in the 20's.
She makes a pie that is half filled with black cherrys in cocolate, and the top half is some whipped cream concoction. Unreal.

I love yogurt. I eat 1 1/2 cups of the stuff a day so I can maintain my dairy intake. I find that yogurt and cream cheese are very close on the "tang-o-metre" if that's what you're referring to.
I would give it a shot if that sort of thing appeals to you. They're only 6 bucks per litre so it's not too much to lose if you don't like it.

My mom made about 20 pies when I was a kid and then told me to put them in the deep freeze. Not knowing any better I stacked them all on top of each other, all the filling squished out of them all over the freezer.

How about strudel? Do you prefer strudel over pie?

M&M's Key Lime is also very good.
Apple pie is may favourite, but I haven't found a really good one from anywhere like my Grandmother used to make.

My favorite pie is a recipe that my mom makes. Although I think it's official name is Bavarian Apple Torte or something along that lines. To me it's cheesecake with apples on the top. It's very good. I'm also a huge fan of the nanaimo bars, but I've never had any as tasty as my grandma used to make them. Pumpkin pie from M&M meat shop is another great choice.
