Mexican Vacation help
Hey all, my girlfriend and I want to go away to Mexico for a week after the Stampede. We started looking via the internet, but it's easy to get lost amongst the 10,000 online travel sites each promoting 10,000 different resorts.
Here's what we're looking for:
-a budget of $1500 each
-All Inclusive
-We're both in our early 20's, so we're not looking for the senior's village/couples only type thing.
-We're both very active, so things like windsurfing, sailing, scuba, sports etc. are desired
-Nice pool and by the beach
-Middle of July=HOT. Too far south in Mexico might be too hot!
-The Pacific side would be nice because we want to try our hands at surfing.
It's tough to get a good feel for the resort just from the internet. It's the little things (all inclusive only until time X, crappy food, crappy beach, etc.) that often go unmentioned. Personal experience recommendations are what I'm really asking of you guys.
Who's been to a great resort that is in line with what I'm looking for and what was it's name/through who did you book it. Or maybe you can recommend a completely new country. Ideally, we'd like to find some package where we only need to cash one cheque.
Cheers mates, thanks for anything you can offer.

Also, does anyone know of any great online forums to discuss this sort of thing? Kind of like a CP for mexican vacations.

Cool, checking it out now. Thanks. This should be a good start, but I'm also really looking for good reviews of specific resorts/areas.

Only place in Mexico I've been to is the Decameron Los Cocos near Puerto Vallarta. Apparently it's gotten better since I was there, but the food was so bad that I lost 10 pounds in the week I was there. Add to that the draconian rules about when you are aloud to eat.
Note- the Decameron Los Cocos is not to be confused with the Royal Decameron. I've hear good things about them.

Puerto Vallarta is really good for young people. You are right in the city and can go to all the bars and clubs. The beaches aren't great but if you want to party thats the place to go IMO.

For my first post at CP,I've got a good tip for your vacation.Being young, you should bail on the all-inclusive idea unless you just want to sit around and drink and eat.
Fly to Puerto Vallarta, about an hour north is a little town called Sayulita. It's a funky little fishing village/surfer town. The waves this time of year are pretty mellow and it's a nice longboard wave, great for learning.Cool town, friendly locals, beautiful beaches and you won't feel trapped like you do at an all-inclusive.Tia Adriana's B&B is a great place to stay...ask for Greg. It'll be dead this time of year, you won't need a reservation, just book a flight and show up.
If you do want a resort, try 'Paladium' near Punta Mita. There is a great break called 'burros' right in front of the resort. There isn't much going on at the resort and will be mostly mexican tourists but the surfing is really good.
Hope this helps

I was at the Barcelo Maya at the start of May. It is around $1500. It is on the East coast, but had a continual breeze off the ocean so it was always comfortable (and I generally don't like 'hot' weather). I primarily got a couple drinks, found a hammock, and read a book, and if I did get hot, jump in the pool and come back. It was luxury.

I've never been to Mexico, but I'll add my two cents anyway.
I've heard that one of the most enjoyable things to do while in Mexico, is to tell your boss that you don't want to work for him anymore and that he has to transfer you somewhere else.

Been there twice, it is a great resort. I would recomend anyone to go to the Mayan Riveria (not as much partying, but very relaxing)

Sample, it seems that everything available on the tripcentral site leaves on Saturday (July 15 for me). I would much much rather leave on Sunday July 16th because I have a friend coming into town for the final weekend of Stampede.
Also, do you have a physical agency that I can walk into, or just the website. I'm the type who would rather speak to someone across a desk.
If you would rather take this to PM, fire away.
