Circumcision?
I hope this is allowed, it's a serious question. Are you for or against it for your son or future son's?

For, simply because it's been known to (at least mildly) reduce the risk of STDs.

Penn & Teller covered this in their Bull##### show that they do right now.

Tough subject, and there's lots of people on both sides who feel VERY strongly about it.

I don't think I would, unless it was medically required. Simply because I don't see much point in it whatsoever.

There's been quite a bit of evidence and reexamination of previous studies to show that many of them were flawed (ie using men who don't have STDs as a control group without factoring in that those men had fewer sexual partners). Some show increased risk for circumcised males even!

we did it for our little guy.
the biggest reason for me was the infection and need to do it later, I guess many 8-10 year olds are having it done and that's way worse. Heck I know a 60 year old guy that has recently had to have it done.
but yes ... 50/50 thing, no wrong answer.

I never had it done myself and saw no reason for my boy to have it done either.

Against, unless it's necessary for medical reasons of course.

I think in a lot of cases it can be detirmined by whether or not the father was.

Had it done on my son. What I am about to say could *almost* qualify for the dirty little secret thread, but I had to have it done when I was about 8. I got infected and I remember how much discomfort I had... then the pain of the circumcision and the embarassment of having all the doctors and nurses always checking it out... I decided to lessen the risk of my son having to go through the same thing.

Studies seem to be split on this. Unless it is for religious reasons, I don't see the need.
And another thing, from " Dear Abby"
Quote:
DEAR ABBY: I have reason to believe that a young man in my family may be gay. (He is 15.) I have been thinking a lot about it lately, and have been wondering if circumcision would cure it. What do you think? -- GRANDMOTHER IN MISSOURI
|
The answer would be no.

I was surprised to read that less than 17% of Canadians have had it done and that you actually have more of a chance for infection if you get it done. Is this just different religions trying to push their point? From what I hear the Jewish religion is the only one that stresses circumcision, despite the popular belief that Christianity pushes it as well.

I think Christianity pushes it as well. Something to do with Bibical status.

Serious. I know many Christian families that promote it because of Bibical teachings.

Have there been studies as to whether or not sexual sensation is increased or decreased due to circumcision?
Isn't that, by far, the most important question here?
If I can save my kid 3% in his chances of getting an infection, but reduce his sexual pleasure by 20%, am I doing him a favour?

Never had it done and if I have a son same. I think it' mostly for aesthetic reasons. Some people think a circumsized penis is more visually appealing. I never got any complaints, so don't care much.

I say yes. The last thing you want is your kid to be named "Shotgun" "Snuffaluffagus" or "touquer". A friend of mine endured a childhoood filled with foreskin jokes, and to this day we still crack the odd funny such as "do you clean it with a toothbrush?"
