Flyers Shake Things Up
From the desk of GM Noops…
Big moves keep coming out of Philadelphia! I made two deals late Sunday night.
The first move sees the Flyers sending Keith Primeau and Matt Pettinger, yes the final piece of the ménage-a-trois, to the Calgary Flames for star defenseman Kimmo Timonen. Timonen finished 9th in scoring amongst defensemen last year in the CPHL, and he’s still in his prime. The Flyers hope for big things from Kimmo. I also had to put up Robert Nilsson as insurance in case Keith retires or doesnt play again as part of a clause. This was the toughest part of the deal to hammer out. Thanks to GM Axel for making this one work.
The second move I made sees us sending Shea Weber (who i held as an untouchable) to the Chicago Blackhawks for forward Shawn Horcoff. Weber is going to be an all star for years to come, but we think we got an excellent player in Horcoff who can step in right away and play on one of our top two lines, with either Keith Tkachuk or Olli Jokinen. We had huge plans for Shea, but it was too good a deal to pass on. Thanks to GM Becky for being so damn persistant!
These are probably the two toughest deals I've made since taking over the role of GM for the Flyers. Whoever thought being a GM was going to be easy is friggin crazy!!
