The Pittsburgh Penguins Offense just got a whole lot scarier. The Pens pulled the trigger on a huge deal to bring in Joe Sakic, one of the CPHL's most dangerous scorers. The Pens paid a hefty price sending centers Brendan Morrison and Mark Bell to the Sens in exchange for Sakic and prospect Danny Irmen. The Pens felt that their biggest need was another top notch forward to take the team to the next level. The Penguins now have Sakic, Jason Spezza, and Saku Koivu as the teams top 3 centers, but that is expected to change as one of the three will make a move to the wing to give the Penguins 2 very dangerous forward lines.
Ilya Bryzgalov
In another move the Pens sent goalie Mathieu Garon and forward Mark Hartigan to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for backup goalie Ilya Bryzgalov. GM Goffie was looking to get younger between the pipes, while still maintaining a reliable backup for Jose Theodore and this deal meets those requirements. Although Bryz is a slight downgrade on Garon, the Pens expect him to win his share of starts this season.
In more team news the Pittsburgh Penguins have no comment on the fact that star goaltender Jose Theodore was seen leaving a Toronto nightclub with a certain unknown hotel heiress, and will not be answering anymore questions on the matter.
