Default How To Argue With An Umpire (Joe Mikulik)

The Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAY0a...dspin%2Ecom%2F

So in case you haven't heard of him yet, the minor league manager who is now infamous for his raging antics...

In a tantrum of epic proportions, Manager Joe Mikulik turned Applebee's Park into a one-man show following a close call at second base in the bottom of the fifth inning.

This one had it all, including not only on-field antics, but quotes afterward, and the piling of two water coolers and a pitching screen to block the door of the umpires’ dressing room. You’ve got to get bonus points for that.

The fracas occurred during the fifth inning of the Tourists’ game with the Lexington Legends and involved Lexington’s Koby Clemens, of all people. Clemens had just doubled, and Asheville pitcher Brandon Durden tried to pick him off of second. Umpire Andy Russell called Clemens safe, and with that, let’s start the feud!

Key quote from our protagonist:

Quote:
I just wish the umpire’s association would train their young men to have a personality. I could get two mannequins at Sears and umpire better than what I saw this whole series.
And right now Clemens is saying: “I thought my dad was nuts …”

Yeah it was quite a meltdown and is getting huge play locally as well as nationally.

I had a chance to spend some time with Joe last year when the hockey team and the Tourists did some cross-promotional stuff. Quite a mild-mannered guy actually, so seeing that whole spectacle was surprise.

All part of baseball though. Last night one of the local radio personalities held a "Moolah for Mikalik" night before a double header, trying to raise 1,000 bucks to pay his fine.

Jim Rome was hilarious on that topic... I'm still laughing about it.
