New Metallica Song
I know some people here hate them whether it be because they just dont like them or because they're still bitter over them sueing Napster but I also know there's people on here who would appreciate this.
This was performed live yesterday in Berlin. My first impressions on it are it sounds like as if someone took all their albums and mixed them together in a blender. I think the lyrics could have been better but chances are they will change a bit before they start recording and could sound alot better in the studio version. But I was very pleased to hear alot of heavy riffs that are both old school and new school Metallica and solos are back.

Love Metallica. Just saw the tribute band Disposable Hero's a few weeks ago. I'll buy the new album regardless but in my opinion they peaked with .....And Justice for All.

I also love Metallica. Best album, IMO is probably "black."

You got to see Disposable Hero's. Right now they are playing the entire Master of Puppets album from start to finish to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Master of Puppets is by far the best they've done. Any of their first 4 or 5 are great, their last album was a joke. Load and Re-load are mediocre. Great concerts, though.

The black album is good but I also think it's very overrated. It might have sold the most and was the album that launched them into the fame they have now but Master of Puppets was the album where they started to get noticed and is pretty much flawless. Justice is probably still my favorite album though.

Metallica are competely useless.
Nothign do do with Napster, but everything to do with the horrific music they've released over the past 10+ years.
Load?
The Symphony Album?
St Anger?
Please. What a bunch of garbage. Delevered with Hetfield's new rockabilly vocal styling no less. Anyone old enough to buy Puppets or Lightning in the day knows better.

I'd listen to St. Anger over the Loads anyday. St. Anger might be raw but it's aggressive which is what alot of people were complaining Metallica was lacking with the Loads and to and extent the Black album.
Re-Load is their worst IMO. It's got three or four good songs but the rest you can tell why it was meant to be side B of Load but they thought the songs needed tweaking and they were sick of being stuck in the studio and wanted to tour again so they just released them as a new album the year later.

Hetfield has probably the best vocals out of any of the bands I know. At least they're not high pitched and annoying like most bands in the 80's.
Plus they are the only band where most members are still together, after 30 some years together.

Metallica has not been around since 1976 and only has two of it's original members left.
BTW, Ever heard of Aerosmith?
I liked Metallica up until around 1996 when they decided to start putting out garbage.

I like aspects and songs form all their albums. I know this probably doesn't make me a "real" fan like those that only like them pre-Black but I am cool with that.
I don't agree with their stance on Napster but have seen them a few times now and will say that they put on a great show.
They do seem to really divide their fanbase form thsoe that like the newer stuff and old stuff and those that think they are the worst band ever for putting out Load, Reload etc.

Fine, 20 some years. Metallica has 3 of the original members, given that you consider Hammet an original member.

I first discovered Metallica with their black album. I liked it, but I didn't like their previous stuff (nor did I really give it a chance). I like Load. I've only heard a couple of songs from Re-Load so I can't completely comment on that one.
Now that I've heard more of their older stuff, I like it too. I didn't like St.Anger though. To me with St.Anger they tried to copy the style of their older stuff, but they missed the mark.

But Hammet isn't an original member. I believe he's their third ryhtm guitarist. That and their new bass player isn't half the player Jason was.

Just because you dont care for it doesnt make it garbage. Jason Newsted said it best "Is Load better than Master of Puppets? **** no but that doesnt make it a bad album. You just have to be into that type of music". There's alot of bands that I dont care for but I'm not going to call them garbage. They're good they just dont play the music that I'm into.
As far as S&M it's a live album with a symphony in the background. I dont even count it as a studio album and put it in the same category as Garage Inc. If you're going to call it crap you might as well call Master of Puppets crap since it has songs from that album on it. Big deal if playing with a symphony isnt "the metal thing to do". I'm not into classical music but it was different to see some of their stuff mixed with a symphony. They did it as a favor to Michael Kamen who provided the background music for Nothing Else Matters and for years tried getting them to do a concert with him and finally they agreed.
As far as St. Anger I've already addressed that. Are they as good as they were in the 80s? No but that's just like every other band who has been going for 20+ years. Their best stuff is their early stuff.

The only song on the Black album that was anygood is "Wherever I may roam".
Metallica's best Albums IMO are the following
1. Master of Puppets
1a. Ride the Lightning
1b. Justice for All
1c. Kill'em All
1d. Garage Days / Garage Inc (2 Disc)
Every else was just fluff.

You have to keep in mind too that he screwed his voice up pretty bad making the Black album and needed to see a vocal coach to show him how to use his vocal cords properly without damaging them. Maturity played a big part in his voice changing too. I dont think it's changed that drastically though as some people make it out to be.

I'm sure they would have imploded and not managed to do anything but I've always wondered how even more legendary Metallica could have been if Dave Mustaine wasn't booted from the band. Again, i know they would have imploded and never amounted to anything near what they are with Mustaine still around, but in a perfect world with all the BS thrown out the window how good would they have been? IMO they would have rivaled God. No offence to Hammett who is a very good guitar player but Mustaine seems to have more creativity in his pinky finger than Hammett has in his entire body.
