Anyone Play the Afternoon Poker Tourney At Blackfoot Casino?
I've been thinking of going and I've never entered any tournaments before and i'm curious about signing up, amount of time you should be there before tourney starts etc. etc. etc.
any information would be great thanks ahead of time.

I don't think you have to be there that far ahead of when they start. A friend of mine has gone a few times now and he enjoys it. $22 buy-ins but it's a bit more than that on the weekends. Usually quite a few people there and you can make a fair bit of cash if you even get near the top.
I've been playing with friends casually for a while now. Thought about going but the idea of being in the casino with a bunch of guys around you who do it all the time is a bit intimidating. If you do go though, good luck!

A good place to start is by playing home games. There is a huge group of home game players who follow casino rules in all their games at www.pkforum.ca Just visit the Calgary Home Game section and sign up for a game. New players are always welcome.
Great way to learn the casino rules and get practice in before you head to the casino.

Blackfoot Casino? Are you talking about Cash Casino or am I completely mistaken? If its different, is there a website? Thanks.

Cash Casino is the actual name of it, yes. It's located in that little valley there, close to 42nd.

The great thing about the casino game, is that you have a dealer and some one to organize the game. Too many home games I have been to are on disorganized side - plus you get to play against better players so you can learn a lot more.

I'd be interested to know how many rebuys you're allowed. That could significantly add to the cost of the outing.

During the day ones, you can re-buy as much as you want provided you have less than $1001 in chips in the first half hour

For the rebuys you start with 500 chips, and all rebuys are for 500 chips.
So going by the "you can rebuy with less than 1001 chips" rule, you can rebuy twice as soon as you sit down for a total of 1500 chips. Same thing goes when you bust out during the rebuy period....then there's the add on.
So it actually turns into a more expensive venture than you'd expect. Take their 40+5 rebuy tourney for example. I like to have as many chips as possible, so it turns into
$45 to start
Two $10 rebuys to get to 1500 chips
$20 add on after the rebuy period.
So it quickly turns into an $85 tourney, and that's if you don't bust out.

went today gotta say it's pretty cool, looks like you only pay $20+$3 if you call ahead if you just show up you pay $30+$4 plus buy-ins after I didn't take any buy-ins and lasted 40minutes, won 1 hand with pockets aces flop comes up 3 A 9 I think, so I went all in and got called so I won that hadnw ith Trips, then lost on a hand with 8-10 all in flop comes up K Q J, turn was 3 and river was 7 I think, overall good time, really really aggressive players so be prepared to either do a few rebuys on to sit and wait for that to end so people will start playing a bit more conservative

I have to say I love the Casino Tourny's but I hate the REBUYS. Cant stand them. Some people come and just play stupid and rebuy, rebuy, rebuy and then they finally catch a hand.
I personally hate the rebuys.

yeah the re-buy was pretty annoying it was basically all in every hand til they hit or do a re-buy. Next time I go it'll be alot of folding until the re-buy period is over, or find a tourney that doesn't have a re-buy.

Well, it seems Calgary Puck has done me a Mitzva (that's probalby mis spelled, so if there are any Jews on CP, please don't correct my spelling).
Anywho, I unexpectedly got Friday off, so me and a buddy went down the the casino on a whim to play in the daily tourny (that I found out about right here of course).
The website for the casino said it was a $20+3 with no rebuys, but when we got there it turned out it was a qualifyer for some big tourny this week so it was 30+4 with $10 rebuys, so it actually ended up costing each of us $54.
Normally I'd be ****ed that I spent twice as much as I was planning to, but the fact that me and my buddy finised 1-2 made it a little easier to take.
The bad news, neither one of us can play in the big tourney that we won seats for, the good news, there were plenty of folks willing to pay $400 for the seats.
So thaks CP, becasue of you, and this thread, me and my buddy are $750 and $1000 richer.
Best Friday off ever!
