Enraged Mother Calls Fall Out Boy Concert 'Liberal Homosexual Rally'
Quote:
An angry parent has written an email to Fall Out Boy's label, Island Def Jam Records, after taking her daughters to see the band last Tuesday (May 2) in Charlotte, North Carolina. The woman wrote that she was enraged by bassist Pete Wentz's "personal political testimony" onstage, complaining that "the ticket said 'all ages,' and your band was very foul-mouthed and anti-morals. Charlotte is not the demoralized city that liberal San Francisco and other cities across the North and West are...this was a concert, not some liberal homosexual rally."

Fall Out Boy is not really my kinda music, but thought the article was pretty funny. Not surprised that this was coming from North Carolina. Not sure what parents are expecting at a concert either, I have never heard of band being less tame than their album. I remeber hearing about Blink 182 concerts being full of swearing and debauchery and parents rushing their kids out of there within the first 2 minutes.

I like a couple of their songs, I'm not buying their album or travelling to see them perform anytime soon, heck if they come to me I probably wouldn't go. However liberal homosexual rally doesn't seem to be fit them from the bit I know them either.
Liberal, sure they come across that way to the layman, but preaching homosexuality as their idea of family?! I guess I'd have to go to a concert to judge for myself. Regardless, what they do on stage is up to them, it's their show is it not?
(however with "all ages" on the ticket langauge should be watched as they're stating that they're playing a G-rated show)

Their look is so contrived its pathetic. They represent a large portion of what is wrong with music today, IMO.

Yes.
They are probably the biggest band in their genre these days. Blame MTV for that. It's music for the people that felt guilty liking simple plan and wanted something with a little more edge to keep their street cred at a more reasonable level.
I know a booking agent he told me overnight booking Fall Out Boy went from $1000 to $100,000.

I guess I'm living under a rock these days (no MTV, MM, or radio). I only learn about new bands from the net these days.
How edgy can they be... you know, naming their band after a character from the Simpsons... Sounds kind of lame.

It is irrelevant if they are a crappy band.
What does the mom think happens at concerts? Unless they are being held in a bar or beer gardens, aren't most concerts all ages by default? So it being an 'all ages' concert doesn't absolve her of the responsability of determining what the show may be like.
And I'd be willing to bet that if her kid was old enough to want to go to a Fallout Boy concert then the child has probably had worse conversations among friends than anything Fallout Boy could have said. The mom needs to get her head out of the sand and do some parenting.
Maybe she was surprised but the content, but talk to your child. Take some responsibility for what is being learned, don't try to blame a band (or genre of music, or video games...) for what your child thinks.

I agree with Bobblehead. However, I dont think that musical venues are a place to promote ones political ideas and agenda. I went to the Dixie Chicks concert here a few years back. I love thier music but it ****ed me off when they went on a little rant about GB and Tobey Keith. I went to listen to music not to go to some political rally.

Limousine Liberals **** me off.
Another thing that get my panties in a twist is Darren McCarty declaring bankruptcy. I work hard for my living and pay my bills and if this guy can't get it together with his salary then there is something wrong. All of us here are paying for his default. THAT makes me upset too.

What about Mike Tyson declaring bankruptcy? It happens.
EDIT: Whoops. Didn't actually mean to bump this. Sort of scanning some older threads and forgot I was.
