Default Renting a moving truck

In July I am going to need to rent a moving truck to move my wife and myself into our new condo. Does anyone have any recommendations with regards to rental companies?

I hear U-Haul is great!

Actually, I only ever use Thrifty and they have been great. Newer trucks (at least in London) and decent rates and they don't over-book!

We moved into our new condo a year ago and used that Avis place on MacLeod. They were a little bit more expensive than Budget in the one time rental fee but the per kilometer fee was much lower than budgets. So if you are moving a good distance I'd recommend Avis. Plus the truck was awesome and there was no rush to get it back or anything. One complaint I hear about people that use budget is that they rush you, give you an unreasonable time block to work with and sometimes the trucks are late coming back which can screw with your move too. Avis had none of that going on.

I've rented many times (not always for moving) from Ace Truck Rentals. Its an Alberta company, great service and great trucks. And they don't overbook. Mostly 3 and 5 ton Internationals (or larger if you have a license for them). They are located in Foothills Industrial in the SE, 54street & 90th Ave I believe. 252-7520.

Most national/international car rental agencies have decent reputations: Avis / Budget / etc. Just stay far, far away from U-Haul... (my story: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=1402 / other stories: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=23333)

Just for the record, I would never rent from UHaul ever. There's just way too much bad press out there on them to ignore.

Shaw GMC on blackfoot has a little know rental place with some bigger cargo trucks and what's more, unlike U-Haul the trucks are actually in.

I've used Enterprise a few times and I'm pretty happy with their service. I'm actually renting from them again to move just at the end of this moved. I'm not sure if they have Cube Vans as I've only needed to use their Cargo Vans...

When I rented before it was $80/day flat rate...you don't have to pay for mileage, only thing is you have to leave the gas tank as you find it.
When I called to rent the Van for this month the rate is $65/day, mileage is still free and you still have to leave the gas tank as you find it...which might be a bit pricey with the cost of gas now a days. It's worth checking out though...and good luck.

I rented a Uhaul when I moved from Vancouver to Calgary. When I got to Calgary, the staff there congratulated me on not having any breakdowns, apparently it almost always happens. Fortunately, they had to upgrade the size of my truck (and credit me gas money.) I say fortunately because even as it was the truck was totally gutless. I had the flashers on a good part of the trip through the mountains. I think I dropped to 30 kph on the worst section of the Coquihalla.

Never again.

LOL... glad to hear you got here safely! I'm actually the one who started one of the threads listed above (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=23333) - we moved from Victoria to Calgary and ended up getting a moving company rather than doing it ourselves.
