Hey everyone,

I hope this isn't a fata. I ran a few searches with the key terms of this joke, and nothing came up. I've placed it in the OT forum because, well, it isn't exactly hockey news.

Anyway, some pranksters from "The Beast," a satirical newspaper in Buffalo, came up with quite the idea while the OTT/BUF series was going on. The results are pretty freakin' funny. Hope you enjoy:

Sorry, but I can't just take this guy's word for it that the Ottawa Mayor asked him to get the Sabres to throw three games. That seems totally outlandish--and if true, scandalous, not funny.

I note that the mayor is using the "I was kidding" defense. I'm going to go aheand and choose to believe him, if only because the alternative is sort of unthinkable.

There is no way that Ottawa's mayor didn't immediately know this was a prank after the offer to throw the game. Cheers to him for making some good comedy.

I bet he was laughing his ass off as soon as he hung up the phone.

Let's say everything did actually happen as reported. If I was the mayor of Buffalo I'd agree to it as well.

Let's say Iowa says to me in March of 2004 "Hey Ken, if you can make it so the Flames make it to the SCF, I'll give you a million dollars." Why would I turn that down? Yes, I have absolutely no way to ensure it happens, but then I could sort of hold him to it.

In the same way if the Sabres didn't lose then Ottawa would owe him nothing. But if the Sabres went into the tank on their own; he'd have something to hold over the Ottawa mayor's head.

I still don't entirely believe it; but I also don't see that even if it did happen; why it was a bad thing by the Buffalo mayor.
