Exclamation MP3 and Dock Suggestions...URGENT!

K...here's the deal guys, my uncle is coming down, making a trip back to Hong Kong or something, and he said he can pick up an MP3 player for a pretty good price from there. I've been wanting to pick one up for some time now, and since I can get it cheaper from there, why not? Anyway, I only have less than a day to decide. Here's my only parameters:

-2GB is all I need really because I just need it for music
-won't be abused as I'm pretty good with my electronics, but Flash is still preferred as it may be used on the go.
-reliability and compatability with software and other accessories.
-Has to be less than $250 CDN over here (and hopefully I'll pay half that from there).

I'm also thinking about getting those docking stations to play the music in my room. No idea what's good or bad, but the MP3 would obviously have to be compatible. No need for extreme loud or even very loud, but something that's under $100 here, and quality sound without distortion. Help appreciated guys!

edit: Leaning more towards Creative MP3 players, but open to anything.

In one place you say "Has to be less than $250 CDN over here" and in another you say "but something that's under $100 here,"

I'm kind of confused - what price range are we looking for?

Most stero's come with an AUX input in the back. just use that.
those docking stations with speakers are a rip off really.
as for brands, I've heard decent things about the creatives, I quite like my iriver..

I meant, in Canada, the price has to be under $250 CDN, so when I get it from HK, it'll be cheaper.

The docking station should be under $100 here.

Hope this helps.

i'm a flash fan as well. own an iriver 790 and can't complain.

if i were to continue the path of iriver flash, i'd consider the t-10.

From what I have heard, iRiver, Samsung and Apple are the best option in the upper end of flash based. The Creative Zen Nano I haven't heard too much about.
Personally, I have a 2GB Apple Nano and wish it had more memory (it was a gift, I was actually waiting for iRiver to drop in price at the time). While it does hold a lot of songs, I like to load entire albums, and for that it kind of limits you (when Troutman mentioned REM's Murmur yesterday, I was disappointed I didn't have any REM loaded).

I'd suggest figure out which model you like the best, then get as much memory in that model as you can afford. If you like Creative and feel comfortable with them, go for it.

One other thing to consider - are you going to want to purchase download music? The iTunes Music Store (iTMS) will only work with iPod. Other services with Digital Rights Management (DRM) will only work with non-iPods. Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks guys. I've done little research, but the three right now that I've narrowed it down to are:

The Ipod Nano 4GB (or I may go with the 2GB):
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...e?family=iPodx

The Sony 2GB Flash Player:
http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde...78&catid=23693

The Samsung 4GB Flash Player:
http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde...31&catid=23693

They're all Flash players over 2GB. I'd have to make the decision tonight, so let's get in and take the vote or suggest why I shouldn't get a particular model of the 3.

BTW: Bobblehead, I download music using torrents and whatnot, so would that be a problem with any of the players above at all? Thanks.

Personally, I would not consider the Sony (for a number of reasons).

I have a Nano. As I mentioned, it is great but I wish I had larger than 2GB. Other than that I am happy.
The Samsung has only been released a month, but it appears to be a clone of the Nano. The big difference appears to be battery life. Not that you can trust the specs, but 14h for the Nano vs 38h for the Samsung is a remarkable difference.

If you are downloading, I'd reccommend if you find something you like, buy the CD so the artist gets something in return. But any of those players will play anything you can download. HOWEVER, if you want to buy from the iTunes Music store, those files will only work on the iPod. If you want to buy from Pure Tracks or other music services with DRM, they will only work with the Samsung and probably the Sony (the Sony spec doesn't mention DRM).

Myself, given those choices you list, the battery life would lead me to pick the Samsung, but I wouldn't be disappointed by the Nano.
