10,000 Days - New Tool album released tomorrow
Thought I'd remind those who know, and tell those who are interested, that Tool's new album, 10,000 Days, is released in your favorite music stores tomorrow. I know DFF is a pretty big fan and theres a few others out there.
I've heard some snipets from the site and from others who have downloaded songs already and it sounds awesome! It was going to be hard to even come close to what they accomplished on Lateralus, but it looks like they've done it!
And to all the downloaders I will also say. Buy the album, don't just steal it. Support great music. Sure these guys are millionaries, but that's not the point. Make your statement by not buying their overpriced t-shirts then.
And yeah, I know the music industry themselves take most of the profit as well and then manufactures bands solely for profits, and completely overpays talentless middle management agents and producers, but truly great music is art. And 16 dollars is not much to pay for art. Or something that will probably give you aural pleasure for hundreds of hours.
They also start a mini small venue tour tomorrow in the U.S. + TO but nothing really close to here. Their main North American tour will not start until they get back from Europe.

I've been looking forward to this album for a while. The new Pearl Jam is also out tomorrow. And while I don't have the time nor the energy to really argue with you Daradon I disagree with some of what you said.
Downloading the track and not buying does not necessarily equal stealing. On top of that, not paying for it would be the exact message I would want to send anyway because it hits the artists and the industry in the pocket book. Artists (hopefully) get ****ed off at their labels and demand change in the way the industry is run. Let the market dictate things and the old antiquated record industry model will collapse under its own weight. Artists will always be there. Record labels and managers don't need to be there.
Look at what a number of Canadian artists are starting to do as a great example.

I am a huge Tool fan and have been waiting for this album for a long time, the single "Vicarious" is amazing and should be a good indication of what the albume is like. In reguard to downloading here is a quote from Toolshed.
Quote:
Just make sure you buy "10,000 Days" when it comes out in two weeks. Make sure you support the band that has given you so much good music. If you don't, you may not get any more in the future. As one fan said, 'the band worked too hard on this for it to be blown by people who do nothing but accumulate MP3s.'"
|
Plus Tool always has really interesting art with their cds.
Oh an about the tour from the official site from MJK...

We're doing a full on tour at the end of the summer which goes almost everywhere. And in the new year, we'll go almost everywhere else.

Well I am willing to bet that I am the biggest TOOL fan here. I have been listening to the album for a few weeks now and I can say that it is AMAZING.
Regarding Daradon's comments: "And to all the downloaders I will also say. Buy the album, don't just steal it. Support great music."
True TOOL fans don't have to be constantly reminded to buy the new album. We will, don't worry.
I truely believe there are enough true fans out there that TOOL will have no worries about album sales and I predict that this album will debut at #1 much like Lateralus did.

MJK: Hmmm yeah, figured you might be a fan the very first time I saw a post of yours years ago. I don't know what tipped me off.
Just bought the CD this morning and... OH MY GOD!!! Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Definitely not everyones cup of tea. Very complex sounds and structure, very psychaldelic and experimental, but still rocks out at many parts. Moving in that it can put chills down your spine and tears to your eyes. Great poetry, definitely darker overall mood than Lateralus.
This is a CD that could stand the test of time and be important in the ways that The Wall and Zoso (four) have. An obvious must have for Tool fans (too early to say, but I tjink it's their best yet) but a good CD for anyone looking to expand their minds and tastes. A warning to the uninitiated, it's is complex and experimental, it make take a few listens to get used to.
9.99 at Future Shop this morning. And the CD case and art are worth that without even the disk. It comes with more psychadelic artwork and built in lens to make the pics 3D.

Off to buy it right now. Hopefully they do another major tour, as that concert a few years ago was one of the best I've seen.

Picked up my copies of each today. Got a chance to listen to the Pearl Jam disc and it's pretty good. Haven't gotten a chance to sit through the Tool yet..the thing is 75 minutes long.

I can't get it until Friday and it's killing me.
I have heard Vicarious several exhilerating times though.
Greatest active rock band, bar none.

Really digging it so far. Not what I expected, and once I realized it wasn't going to be that way, I listened to it again and liked it immediately.
Some really killer moments.
I can't wait for the show -- last one I went to was mindblowing.

This is a logical position but it does not reflect reality.
Do you know how difficult it is for artists to "stand up to their label?" For the vast majority of artists, the label they're on is their one chance, their lifeline. Saying "no" to that is like quitting your dream job because you don't like your boss.
Until the stranglehold grip record companies have over music and artists is abolished completely, downloading hurts artists as much as it does the companies. You may be "sticking it to the man" but you're sticking it to the people who make the music you love to. Poison the well at your peril.

me too, but then again, its tool..it'll be a solid week or so of effort until I can really form an opinion on the album..there's just too much going on to digest it all right away. Lateralus took me forever to "get", but once I did, I think its a masterpiece.

I agree with that. I actually gave my copy of Lateralus away because I didn't get it. Luckily, he didn't either and gave it back to me. Now it's a brilliant album.
