New Screenshots of Final Fantasy 13!!!

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/705/705652p1.html

And here is the scary thing: Those screenshots are in-game screenshots, and not cut scenes!

We are fast approaching a time when the graphics seen in Final Fantasy: Advent Children will be the norm, rather than the exception.

May 8, 2006 - At Square Enix's press conference at E3 in Los Angeles, the company officially announced Final Fantasy XIII for the PlayStation 3. Square Enix then proceeded to show a trailer from the game, in which a female protagonist is seen flying around a city. Video shown in the trailer was entirely realtime except for a short sequence of rendered footage showing a train -- our "Away Team" who saw the trailer said it looked "incredible", and will be reporting back further details after the SCE conference today at 4PM PST.

For once I'd like to see a scuzzy, balding, dandruff-laden FF character that doesn't look like makeup-caked Hollywood teenagers....

I read an atricle about human rendering a while ago. It mentioned that as graphics get better it is actually getting harder to render natural looking humans. It is so close to photorealistic, that unless it is perfect the human brain knows something is 'wrong' or 'off' with the image and rejects it; whereas in the past the graphics didn't try to perfectly replicate humans, so your imagination could accept the characters.

I don't know why, but it'd be funny in that middle pic if that chick (if it is a chick) had a HUGE bulging whitehead on the bridge of her nose.

Course, that would have all the FF freaks and PRG lifers in a tizzy. Surely there can't be a puss-filled face volcano in a video game... it just wouldn't work!

Can anyone give me a synopsis of the FF storyline? I seem to recall that it used to be a medieval-themed game with a lot of magic and a bit of mechanics built in, so I was completely confused when that FF sci-fi movie came out a while ago. I watched it, and could not, for the life of me, figure out what it had to do with the nintendo games I had played in the early 90's.

each game in the FF series is its own enity and not related in any way to the other (except X-2). The only commonality is there seems to be a character (not always playable) named Cid in everyone somewhere along the line.

Remember when Blades of Steel was cutting edge? That looks sick, I'm not a fan of the series but it's amazing how far games have come.

Advent Children is quite good. Much better than the abomination that was The Spirits Within, although not up to the same quality, being lower budget and all. Advent Children is also a film sequel to Final Fantasy 7.

Final Fantasy 11 is online, but as far as I know, 13 is not.

Correct. Each Final Fantasy series has its own stories and protagonists/antagonists, but the story usually follows a similar theme, i.e. you need to save the world from an evil dictator/wizard/sorceress.

Besides having Cid in almost every one, some of the monsters, such as Marlboro, Coeurl, Cactuar, Chocobo, repeat in each game.

The most popular FF games are probably #7 and #10.

My favorite was probably 7 although 10 is not that far behind. The thing I hated about 10 was that if you didn't have the guide you missed so much (ie dodging 100 lightning bolts on thunder plains to get an epic weapon). You could complete the game with out the guide but key things were so hard to get if you hadn't the foggest where to start.

I found the FF series tends to lean toward graphics rather than gameplay.

I can't get in to any of the FFs past #7, but I find myself breaking out FF2 and FF3, playing those and having a hell of a lot of fun doing it.

My favourites are Final Fantasy 6, 7 and 10. 12 looks good too. The graphics look crazy for 13.

While Final Fantasy 7 was ALRIGHT, the rest of the series, I think, was forgettable.

You want a real RPG? Go play Chronotrigger for Super Nintendo. That is, without a doubt, the greatest RPG ever made.

Favorite FF would have to be one of the more widely disliked, that probably being FF8. I dunno, just liked the jack-ass Squall alot, and the cast of characters.

Other favorites would have to be FFX, and FF7. Also enjoyed 9, but was never a huge fan of the earlier ones, just not as enjoyable for me. Though I also loved FF: Tactics. Also enjoyed the MMORPG, FF11, and thought it was better than expected, if you were willing to put up with the very large time comittments.

Can't wait for the soon to come out FF12, and look forward to 13.

Totally agreed about Chrono Trigger. This game was way ahead of it's time, and timeless now. Ditto for Chrono Cross for the PS1 as well.

What other game can you jump into a basket at the beginning of the game and fight the end boss?

I am partial to 4 (2 American Super Nes) myself. Then 6 (3 American Super Nes)

Played all of them up till X, started with the first, went backwards into the Japanese version when I got the chance. Now I'm just to busy. But one of the best franchises ever.

And yeah, 9 did rock!

Chrono Trigger WAS awesome. So was Squares first (amercian) foray out of the FF franchise, Secret of Mana!

I have a hard time believing those arne't just the cut scene photos. Why would that first pic POSSIBLY be part of the gameplay action?

Methinks your getting a little excited Scorponok. But it does look awesome.

Not that impressive, my computer can do better...

or it could until I fried it.

To be honest, I never understood the allure of the FF series, nor enjoyed it at all. Chrono Trigger was light years in terms of enjoyability and storyline versus any FF I have ever played.
