Default Help! Who was the square dude with the geometric friends?

I figure there are enough old people on here to maybe help me out.... I'm trying to figure out the name of a children's book character I remember from the 80s, but don't have a clue how to find him on the web.

It was an illustrated book....suitable for ages 5-7 maybe (?). The main character was called "Mr. ------", but clearly I can't remember the important part. The main point is, he was a square, or other simple geometric shape, and he had several geometric friends. The book I remember vividly was called "Mr. ------ goes to the sea."

I have the feeling it was "Mr. Smiley," but it doesn't sound right, and gets me nowhere on Google searches. I'm hoping somebody here is old enough that their memory is a little more solid. Help is appreciated, as always.

....

No, I'm not on drugs. Except a permanent level of alcohol in my system.

Those are Mr. Man books. There's a whole series of about 50 of them. Great little books, I loved them when I was little.

Don't know if this is what you are talking about.

That's it...thanks! I see my "geometric" description was only partially accurate, but it got the job done.
