MAYHEIM IN MINNY

In the end, as it so often does, it came down to goaltending.

After being yanked in the two previous games, Curtis Joseph outduelled Mike Dunham and sent the Wild to their first ever Stanley Cup Finals with a 3-1 victory over the Wings.

Cujo stopped 34 of 35 shots as the Wild were outshot 35-26 including 17-5 in the 2nd period.

After the game Farhall gave all the credit to Joseph.

"He stole this game for us tonight. Its that simple. That 2nd period was one of the most amazing periods of goaltending I have seen. We were outplayed tonight and Cujo stole it. The Wings deserve a lot of credit. They beat two of the favourites in this conference to get this far. Their GM deserves a lot of credit".

Mats Sundin scored 2 goals for the Wild continuing his magical post season. Jason Spezza had 2 assists, and the majority of the other Wild big guns were silenced. The insurance goal was provided by an extremely unlikely hero "The Other Petr Sykora".

The Wild move on to face the Atlanta Thrashers in the finals, starting Saturday.

Excellent playoff run for the Wings - well done. Congrat to the Wild, looks like some of the late season moves are paying off. Now to see if you can outduel Cheese. A battle of two GMs that understand the sim. Good luck to both.

Yea congrats to Detroit on a great run. They made some good moves at the deadline to sure up the team in order to get this far. Minny vs. Atlanta, should be a good series.

Well that sucks. It was a good run and fun while it lasted. I guess with the Flames hitting the links and the Wings right after this means I can move on with the next chapter in my life. The one I like to call Summer!

Congrats to Grant and his team. You have done a heck of a job managing your team and since it wont be me going to the final I'm glad its you. Not that others don't deserve it as well.

Wings trade block will be updated shortly. After that sad performance in todays game I'm guessing the entire team needs to go!

Congrats to both squads. I guess my pre-season prognostication in which I labeled the Wild as the best squad in the Howe Conference finally came through.
