It seems like only yesterday that Manny Fernandez became a Florida Panther...wait a second!!!
It's true...Manny Fernandez, only days after becoming a Panther has been shipped to San Jose for the very promising Marc Denis. This was a multi-player deal that also saw Saprykin pack his bags.
"Marc Denis has been a player that I have been pursuing for quite some time now" said Penney. "We now feel that we have one of the best goaltending duo's in the entire CPHL".
The details of the deal are as follows:
Florida sent:
1. Fernandez, Manny (G) NHL
2. Saprykin, Oleg (LW) NHL
3. 2005 3rd Round Draft Choice (mon)
To San Jose for:
1. Gamache, Simon (LW) AHL
2. Denis, Marc (G) NHL
3. 2005 4th Round Draft Choice (phi)
4. 2005 4th Round Draft Choice (was)
5. 2006 2nd Round Draft Choice (min)
"Saprykin is a player who proved to be too inconsistant in the exibition game. If you don't perform well there, you will find yourself on a plane out of town" said Penney. I expect 100% all the time, everytime! If you don't want to show up...talk to you next year!"
This deal is yet another chapter in the Panthers saga. They continue to tinker with the current club and have seemed to get much younger in such a short amount of time. Only time will tell weather or not these deals will pay off. One thing is for sure, the Panthers GM is planning to stay put to watch the magic unfold.
