Default Harper more popular than the separatists

The CROP poll for La Presse put the Conservatives at 34 percent in Quebec, up from the 25 percent the party won during the January 23 election. The separatist Bloc Quebecois, which a few months ago was flirting with 50 percent backing, dropped to 31 percent from 42 percent on January 23.

The Conservatives real gains in Quebec in the election was one of this nations more impressive electoral turnarounds already. To continue building on that momentum is huge, as it is very, very unlikely either the Liberals or Bloq would dare bring down the government with the Conservatives having numbers like that.

Stephen Harper's approval rating is up with me as well, and I'm a member of a simiarly surprising demographic for that to be true of: far left-wing students / artists. He's doing a good job.

It doesn't help that my newspaper is the National Post which just adores him.

I actually participated in that poll. Pretty cool to be able to see the results.

Harper has been a real leader. Something this country has been desperate for.

Its amazing what happens when an elected official actually does what he/she promises they would and got elected to do.

Canadians have had inept leadership for so long they likely (as a collective) have forgotten how refreshing it can be to have politicians come through on their promises.

Same thing Klein dio when first elected as Tory leader/Premier. The public was stunned he actually had the nuts to rollback wages, slash fat from health care and social programs etc etc. That led to the single most popular Premier in Canadian history.

There is a lesson fro politicians in that, as well as what Harper is doing.

But didn't Buzz Halgrove say that a vote for Harper was worse than a vote for the separatists? How can this be?

Surely he wasn't trying to hold the Canadian public hostage for his own self interest was he? Didn't Martin say that the Conservatives would rip the country apart?

What's going on??

The guy is simply getting things done.

That's a very good sign. when a guy does that (gets things done) there will always be critics as there is always more, or a better way to land. However, doing nothing never seems to put the country any further ahead, and often leaves them behind.

It's a very good sign.
