I like to go to 'America West Vacations' (.com) and see what they have. It is priced in USD but they treat you like an american tax wise (no GST) and fly out of Calgary. I have flown with them to Vegas and saved a bundle.

The planes are not the best with very little seat tilt (2 inchs?) and so-so service but for the money it is a good bet.

Dont mean to hijack here, but a question or two for last minute travellers.

We've never done a last minute deal. Thinking of a couple weeks in Mexico next winter. Of course the obvious is to shop around and put some money down on a deal for the place and time, in order to get what you want. But, are the savings quite substantial enough to wait and take a chance on booking something as close to what you want a couple weeks in advance of going? Obviously you'd have to be flexible and expect you might not get the suite, or even the resort you want, but I'm wondering if savings are worth trying it?

I'm thinking that you might not even end up in the same country planned if you already have your time booked off work, and are looking for the best available deal at a nice, warm resort somewhere on a beach. Sort of like sticking your hand blindly in a gift bag. You know your probably gonna get something good, but dont know what!

Everytime my wife and I have gone to the South we booked about 2-3 weeks ahead (non peak season). Usually prices do not go down too much after that. We have found that we usually got a pretty good price and ended up going where we wanted to.

Best times of the year we have found to book are Feb - May and Oct-Nov

For isntance there were a bunch of weeks in May that you could have gone to the Mayan Rivera (4-5 star) for under $2,000 (including taxes) for 2 weeks (all inclusive). None of those were last minute

here's some thought on that process.
last year was one of the busiest years for the travel industry in recent memory.
if you have your heart set on going to a particular place, then you may want to start makign arrangements now to go. some people were left out in the cold, so to speak, when they wanted to go to a particular destination and there was no space available.
if yuo dont care where you go and dont care when you go, then last minute specials can of course save yuo some money.
but again, if you have a specific destination in mind and you have a set date in mind, then you would want to start looking at booking soon.
most times you just require a depost and final balance isnt due until 45 days before departure.
and well, know this too, that if I can be of assistance to you, I will surely give you some great pricing.
thanks

well then your parents are very fortunate.
I just completed a search of the major tour suppliers and that was the least expensive holiday that came up for a short notice flight out of calgary.
