Default Watch Flames Games On The Internet From Anywhere!!!

Hey Guys,

I am new to CalgaryPuck.com and am spending the year in England doing my Masters. I am a die hard flames fan and it kills me missing the playoffs. I tune in at 3am every game night to the Fan, but it's just not the same as watching. After struggling to get good Olympic coverage and watch Flames games, the solution has arrived.

A new technology called SLING MEDIA!!! Its a machine that costs about 250.

My dad is buying it for me today and what it does is it connects to your TV and Router in Calgary (or a friend in Calgary) and it streams the feed directly to you NET. www.slingmedia.com I can't wait to get mine, apparently it works great. Google it and read reviews. Hopefully I get mine soon. Does anyone have one? How is the clarity of hockey.

If you have one in Calgary, can I tune in for tonights game.

Look forward to your thoughts and hopefully this helps at least one fan searching for ways to watch overseas.

Rajen

GO FLAMES GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I can enjoy watching CGY win the Cup while I'm at the World Cup in Germany.

You can also download them for free as a torrent afterwards. This is obviously somewhat illegal, so its riskier.

I've heard someone talking about these slings, but don't really know anything about them. Are you restricted to watching whatever channel on on @ the home?

Using the slingbox you can change whatever channel is on at home. Basically if you're using the slingbox and someone else is physically there you can keep changing the channel on each other .

With digital cable you can do anything with the slingbox that you can normally do (ie. order movies, watch recordings, watch normal TV etc.).

Pretty cool technology but can the Sling Box be any uglier? It's like the Mike Ricci of cable boxes. ahha It looks like it's a keyboard for giants.

Jim Rome is that you?

His commercial for the slingbox sounds pretty much exactly like the original message.

Yes, I just posted about this not too long ago. A few friends of mine in Shanghai have it and they said it is absolutely awesome. You can then connect it to a data projector and watch it on a big screen! I'm getting one this summer.

The only downside that I've heard that there can be a bit of a delay in fast-paced sports games (i.e hockey) but when I go down to their place later in the playoffs I will let you know

Hey Rajen, welcome to CP.

How much do you make as a stealth marketer? I've often wondered if that was a well-paying gig.

Doesn't a slingbox totally kill you for upload bandwidth? Those of us in Calgary will have Shaw cutting off service for uploading too much.

BTW, you don't need to pay for one of these. You can buy a $90 TV Tuner card to install in your existing PC and some of them include software that streams TV over the internet as well.

I use it to watch games on my laptop because I just connect to my home computer which acts as a server and I can change the channel remotely as well.

Typically though, I only do it within my own home network otherwise, Shaw would be calling me as well.

No doubt, that post was totally unnatural.

Yep, I've got a Slingbox and am looking forward to using it if I leave the country while the Flames are still in the playoffs. My dad has been watching the games from Sacremento and it has worked great from there.

I can't believe someone considered this off topic.... CGY fans in china and in england talking about a way to view games live seems pretty on topic to me...

but I'm just a californian...

Just an FYI, but if you are thinking about it you may want to do it sooner rather than later.

Content Owners in the US are starting to make noise that they want the slingbox declared illegal because it violates their retransmission rights. link
Quote:
“Content owners don’t like it [Sling] because they think it violates their copyrights,” HBO CTO Bob Zitter said during a panel here Tuesday. Zitter’s comment came in response to a question from the audience concerning how new technologies are changing the way content is distributed.
Quote:
Asked if legal proceedings were underway against Sling, Zitter said: “Not involving us, but from others.” When asked if HBO was planning such legal actions, Zitter replied: “I don’t think I want to say.”
My techie geek lust may not allow me to let this sale pass.

I don't think it was that bad. This is great technology albeit really ugly. I still remember when i was in Hong Kong one year and the only way that i could watch hockey was having my dad send me a vhs of a few games. The games were 3 weeks old! Plus i couldn't even find out scores back then. The HK newspaper's sport section consisted of NBA and horse racing only. hahaha

Alright sorry to rain on everybody's parade, but the slingbox is quite possibly the most overexpensive, under-performing piece of equipment on the market today. Orb networks has the EXACT same technology available for free download at www.orb.com . The technology is amazing, but the slingbox is trying to make yet another piece of equimpment that costs well over 100 bucks that you need to have sitting around...when your computer can do the same thing 10 times easier. Quick note...you need a tv tuner in your home computer obviously to pick up the feed(ie. windows media centre program). If you're wondering, the tuners can be bought somewhere such as bestbuy for around 50-75 bucks. PLEASE do not buy a sling media box...i almost did until i found this site. Thank you.

That's what I said. You can as easily make one yourself than buy a giant ugly sling box.
