Default Community of Malborough Park information?

Well,

Again, I hate to use this site as information free for all for all my Calgary questions but my last thread I had some great information so I thought this couldn't hurt to do. (mods, feel free to delete this if need be).

Anybody know about the community of Malborough Park in Calgary up in the North East? I've been looking for a place to rent now that I start my new "career" on May 1st and there's a place that seems awfully great. Is it a nice community? Low crime/good resident population?

If anybody has any info it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys, I appreciate it more than you'll ever know.

Forest Lawn has a bad reputation. Marlbourough Park is close to Forest Lawn so it suffers. Lots of good people there but some not so good. The west or deeper south has a generally better rep but YMMV. Lots depends on if you are single or have a family.

I know lots of people that live in Marlborough and Marlborough park, I grew up there, yeah REPRESENT!!!! It's not that bad, some good, some bad, you find that anywhere now. I uesd to live in the appartments on Marlborough Dr and 36st, real close the the LRT, not a bad place, rent wasn't that bad either.

I lived for the most part in Marlborough Park from 1975 to 1991.
I thoroughly enjoyed growing up there but have noticed that the community has changed a lot over the years.
I believe that if you live in the more central part of the community you should be fine.
Closer to Memorial Drive and closer to 52nd Street could invariably present a few more problems but probably no moreso than any other place.
The community is my "home town" so to speak so I can only say good things about it.
I am sure you will enjoy.

1979 to 2003 for me, born and raised

I consider Forest Lawn as 'The Hood', so I always thought of Marlborough Park as a suburb of the 'The Hood'

As was mentioned above, it's actually not a bad place considering its reputation, and I personally didn't have a lot of problems. It seems like there is a lot of lower income housing nowadays, as some of the places have become a little more 'run down'. Growing up there, I would feel totally safe; ask someone who didn't and you might get a different answer though.

There is pretty good access to transit in the area (3 bus routes), with a few little strip malls along Memorial Drive. Just a short distance from 36th Street, where there is the LRT, another (smaller) mall, Safeway, some restaurants, etc. Up 36th Street is a newer renovated mall, Superstore, etc.

I didn't grow up there, but the neighbourhood has always seemed fine to me...no incidents, and it's not an uncorfortable place to be. I say if you are getting a good deal and you like the place, go for it.

Wow... a few of us native Marlborough Parkians. BTW, snappyk, those apartments are in Marlborough, not Marlborough Park. Two different things.

Like the others have said, it's a good neighborhood. You can get some nice well-kept houses there. Some houses have been rented for a number of years, and they show, but the ones that have been owned with pride for a length of time are nice places. Yards are nice, as the neighborhood is about 30 years old. Lots of schools there; 3 elementary schools, 2 junior high schools. Close to amenities, and you can get downtown in 20 minutes (sometimes less).

Marlborough Park does get a bad name because it's in the NE and amongst places such as Abbeydale, Penbrooke Meadows, Marlborough, and Forest Lawn, but I think it's a bit of an oasis in the midst of some rugged-looking 'hoods. It's got a LOT of greenspace, notably with the large park surrounding the community centre, which is turned into a giant skating rink in the winter. The ice hasn't been great in recent years, but that's a weather thing.

But then again, I'm biased. But I'd move back there in a heartbeat.

Wow guys, thanks for the wealth information. Definitely what I was looking for. Unfortunately, things fell through (I "had" it for 30 minutes this morning but than it got taken) but, a new place is now available in Rundle....I've heard some relatively good things about it. I guess we'll find out what it's like when I go there in a week....thanks guys, and now I can cheer for a winning team like the flames (unlike the oil or the 'nucks)
