How much should I expect to pay for gas?
Well on March 5th I drove down to the Heckle in Red Deer and gas cost 82.9 cents a litre. Today a mere 45 days or so later and it's 103.4 cents a litre and expected to jump another 10 cents here any minute. So that puts it up to about $1.15 a litre. How much higher is it going to go?
I know high oil prices technically should be good for Alberta and Canada, and I certainly have the choice to adjust my lifestyle to suit. I mean the price of gas has an impact on me, but not a major impact as I ride the bus to work quite often and intend to ride my bike more often now that the weather is turning the corner.
But lets face it my wages didn't go up 35% in the past two months and somewhere the cost of transporting goods for me to consume is going to be impacted by this. Than factor in that other utlities will go up, and I'm hoping theres a limit. I don't want to be put in a situation where I have to make 150 grand a year just to cover the cost of living.

I think you rich Albertans should pay at least 1.75 a litre to help us easterners keep our prices at the 80 cents range.
We might think you are nice people by doing so.

Some talking head on 660 today said it should go up any day (as you noted Syl) and then maybe up a little bit more after that. Then, apparently, it should stay at that price, I guess around $1.10/l, for the rest of the summer.

You and I both know that May long weekend there is going to be a huge jump at the pump. I'm guessing that it will be $1.20 or higher by then.

Yeah that is true. It wouldnt suprise me. A jump to $1.20 would be pretty significant too. Thats a jump of about $15 to fill my truck. Anyone wanna trade a moped for an 88 4 Runner?

Well I did. I made it to as high as #90 in ladder. But then Broodwar came out and screwed my Terrans over. hehe.
Oh yeah gas is at 109.5 all around the city. I found a 7-11 on 16th Ave that still had it at 105.5 but thats probably going to change over night.

I'll be flat out stunned if gas does not go over $1.25 at some point this summer. There are simply too many factors that have to line up to avoid a big spike in prices. Personally, I think it would be good for North America in the long run - there is no cure for high prices like high prices.

Well my Mustang is off the road. Looks like it will stay in the gargage for the rest of the year. I guess my mileage was getting a bit high on it for my liking so a year of non-driving will be good. I ride the bus to get to work, and the objective is to start riding my bike from May to September as much as I can. But despite my efforts, I can talk till I'm blue in the face and I absolutely won't convince my wife to stop driving to work. Under no circumstances will she even consider the bus despite the fact that the bus would cost like $120 less a month when you consider parking and gas.
Mind you when it comes to things like gas I'm trying to think more in terms of how many litres of gas a month that we're consuming, and trying to figure out ways to reduce that. But even that has limits.

I'm hearing some of the oil and gas analysts in Calgary say we should expect to pay between $1.30 and $1.40 a liter this summer.
In other news, retiring Exxon Chairman gets $400 million retirement package.

Any questions?
