Default Needed: Some New Music!

A little pointless background info, shall we?

I'm in love with Metallica, and have been for a while, but I'm looking to "expand my horizons" regarding the music I listen to. Before Metallica it was rap (yea...I know, don't even go there...), and right now I'm trying to get into some other bands like Iron Maiden and Slayer..but their lyrics to me just don't cut it.

I listen to a bunch of other stuff as well, just random songs I've heard and liked, some mainstream, some not. I'm into rock/metal, even light rock, and I'll even go as far to say I'm willing to get into rap again, if the artist is something I like.

I'm looking for some suggestions. Any genre really, but I want a song that has good lyrics. You know, the words with the meaning behind them. I'm also a fan of good riffs, but the lyrics should be there too.

Suggestions?

Try some of the Chili Peppers early work, amazing stuff....From there, you can branch off into the late 70's genre of funk, specifically George Clinton and the Parliament of Funk....Great stuff IMO.

The Strokes, the Arctic Monkeys... if you like those.. there is a whole world open to you....

Also The Hives and The Kooks are good places to go if you like the first two...

Ch40s;

If you're a fan of Metallica from the early days, pick up Megadeth's "Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?" or "Rust In Peace". Try to pick up the old versions however. Dave Mustaine thinks he's a producer and felt like remixing them and didn't do too hot of a job, but if you've never heard them before it probably won't matter to you.

If you like the "Load" years pick up Corrosion of Conformity's "Deliverance", "Wiseblood" or their latest one "In the Arms of God".

If you like riffs check out Pantera, Black Sabbath (the Ozzy years), Sepultura, Lamb of God, High on Fire, Opeth, or Motorhead, but if you're into Metallica you should already know that.

You don't like Slayer? Satan help you.

EDIT: Can't believe I forgot this one. Buy Faith No More's "The Real Thing". Hell, buy anything from Faith No More... it's all good.

In Flames... good band, they're more death metal,. but really good riffs and "melodic metal"...

That was back in my ozzfest days...

Now im really into country, and more specifically a guy named Jason Boland (also affiliated with Cross Canadian Ragweed).

I love just strummin along to all their songs.

Well considering you said your willing to give everything a try I'll suggest some of various genres:

The Doors (My favorite band right now)- ANY!
Jimi Hendrix- Somewhere, Over the Rainbow
The Yardbirds- Shape of Things

Tupac- Hold Ya Head Up
Notorious B.I.G- Spit Your Game (New off of the Biggie Duets Album)
Wu-Tang Clan- Protect Ya Neck
Kanye West- Touch the Sky
Big L- 8 Iz Enuff

Franz Ferdinand- Burn this City
Death Cab for Cutie

DJ Tiesto- Ayla
Yoji Biomehanika- Samurai
Armin Van Buuren- Shivers
Judge Jules- Santos/Camels

That pretty much covers the various genres that I listen too, there are many more but those are the only things that are coming to me off the top of my head at the moment, give 'em all a brief try who knows you might enjoy it!

EDIT- edited to add specific songs that might catch you
