Due to some recent discussions I thought a few of you would find this interesting. There is an interesting blurb about The Da Vinci Code in the article as well.

It would appear that Hollywood's new trend is Godsploitation Film. This was a topic of discussion at a Tribeca Film Festival panel this week. In case there are some of you that are not familiar with Blax
spoitation Film, then you should check out any of the
Pam Grier flicks, although I'm sure a lot of you will be familiar with the term already.
Personally, I can't stand the idea of 'Godsploitation Film'. One because I know that if this idea does materialize, there will be an over-abundance of interest groups, and I think there are more than enough already. And two because of the negative effect that I feel these films will have on people. It's been my experience with movies that are didactic in nature, where the opposite of the message you are trying to convey actually gets accross. You can only see Jesus get nailed on the cross so many times before you actually start to recent the message they keep trying to hammer into you. There are exceptions though, The Last Temptation of Christ was kickass because of Martin Scorcesse's simple approach, and that was to make Jesus seem more human than anything else.
I understand the need for these films though, why not exploit the subject when there is a demand for it. I know I won't be linining up to see any of these 'Godsploitation' films, especially if any of those new religious flicks are as bad as The Passion of the Christ. I would however, line up if they decided to re-release something like
Women in Cages.
