Default PC strategy fans rejoice!

There is a new 4X space game available now called "Galactic Civilizations 2" that is probably the best game for a long long time in the genre. It is the game that "Master of Orion 3" should have been.

Anyone who is a Civ4 fan or turn based gaming fan in general should check it out:

www.galciv2.com

Anybody else played this game yet?

It could be downloaded last week, but I think BB wasn't supposed to have it until today. I've read a bunch of stuff from people who already have it or beta tested it.

Sounds promising, but I'm still working on Fable - Lost Chapters and my next night class will take up a bunch of my time.

I beta tested the first version of the game, very solid 4x game. Highly recommended.

Haven't played this one yet, but will likely buy it sometime soon.

The game is the shiz, and the best part about it is the developers provide updates based on the forum, you can also critisize the game without being banned (ie EA).

Only fault is no multiplayer.

I got it when it came out. Really good game; nice graphics and an AI that can kick you around if your not careful. Stardock has really done well listening to the customers, and the latest Beta of the game has a lot of changes in it (visual and mechanic). I'd recommend anyone into strategy games to give it a go.

I think putting multiplayer into the game would have really cut into the quality of the AI. Besides, I've found turn based multiplayer games really boring to play.

You have to remember a few things when playing:

1) Population gives you money. People give you income, and income lets you build stuff. The initial rush to colonize is REALLY important.
2) Specialize your planets. This can help speed up research and production, since planets aren't trying to do everything at once.
3) Constantly build up your military. The stronger your military, the less the AI will attack you.
4) Build custom ships. Not only are they better than stock ships, you can make em look cool.

Cool, I think I'm a little bad with #2. I hate to build a big military only to have to upgrade it really soon, but I guess I will have to as they keep ganging up on me while I tech rush military stuff..

I'd forgotten about this.

*sigh*

So many games, so little time, especially with the warmer weather lately.

This one's worth the time, especially if we have another June like last year.

Empires at War, when I got it I played the heck out of it, it had some cool features and the graphics were outstanding, but it became repetitive, every ground battle was basically the same, and in the space battles the unit count was really low. I was hoping for massive battles with a bunch of Star Destroyers, but the most I could put on the screen were 3.

The hero's feature was excellent.

The only game like this I've "gotten into" in the last while was Rome:Total War

That is a great title.

I tried getting this title a week after its release, but of course no store in Saskatoon had it yet . I'll have to go see if they have gotten it yet.

Interesting to note that this game has no copy-protection software, and was the #1 sold SOFTWARE product the first week there and had much higher then anticipated sales. While apparantly Starforce copy protection actually provided a link to a torrent site that had GalCiv2 torrent to prove how much it was being pirated, they must be scared they could be out of business if this catches on.

Yep - loved that one. Bought the expansion, but never played it as much as the original.

This title is much more intensive.

For WW2 strategy buffs, Hearts of Iron 2 is a great title as well.

Why don't you just go to their site and download it?

If you want the box and media, they just tack on shipping and handling but you can still download it immediately and get started.

lol... They can't even make SC Ghost...

You're more likely to see World Of StarCraft before you see SC 2
