Hey all,
I'm thinking I want to cruise off to Europe in May/June.
I've looked at places like travelocity, expedia, etc. I figure I'll go Calgary-Frankfurt direct, and then Rome-Frankfurt-Calgary on the way back (or Rome-Toronto-Calgary).
My question is, if you know you want to leave 6 months in advance, what's the best way to book cheap tickets? Should I go through an agent? Is there a website or company that is usually the best? What is a 'good' price for that flight?
So far the quotes I'm getting online, including taxes, are around 1450-1500 bucks.
Any help anyone has would be much appreciated.
(I also want to buy a cheapish digital camera to take with me, though I know there are dozens of threads for cameras, feel free to post suggested products)

Is there a 'multiple flights' option on Mobissimo...? Or do I have to book 2 separate direct flights? I'm not going on a 'round trip' because i'm arriving at one city in Europe, and then leaving from another.
Most websites have the 'multiple flights' option, can't seem to find it here.

Hey! If you are a valid university or college student, you'll find the cheapest flights at the travel cuts offices in MacHall or in Kensington.
That's the best way to go hands down.

Germany will be crazy at that time with the World Cup going on. Flights, accomodations etc, could be very expensive.
There is a new airline that flies to Calgary from Dusseldorf. I forget the name. Maybe fly to Amsterdam too.

Do not buy a cheapish Olympus digital camera. Mine sucks.

Well... what would qualify me as a student? I'll be in class until the end of April, at which point I'm not sure if I'm a 'student' or not... I'm also over 25, if age is an issue. I'm not sure if I qualify for the ISIC thing, thought you had to be under 25 or something.

Try these guys
PAN ASIA HOLIDAYS
403-237-5455
I use them for my flights to Asia, and they are the cheapest in the city. Not sure what they can do to Europe though.
Be forewarned: A comprehensive understanding of broken english may be required if you call them.

World Cup is June 9th to July 9th. It will bea fantastic tme to be there but horrendously expensive and hard to get accommodation in any major German city.
My advice would be to fly to Scotland first. Its a shorter flight by a couple of hours and if you use www.flyzoom.com you'll get a great deal. Im going from Glasgow to Calgary later this month for around £90 which is about $180 Canadian i think. From Glasgow you can get to any European city you like pretty much.

Don't fly Rome->Toronto->Calgary. That is a much longer flight than Rome->Frankfurt->Calgary. Going over the pole = good

Good call. I hate the discomfort of flying, any shorter flight would be good.

Travelling by train in Europe for short distances is WAY better than taking a discount flight.

Dunno why flyzoom are so cheap but not complaining. Is that who the price you quoted is from?

Wow, thanks for the links everybody. I'm also planning on going to Europe this spring and I never knew you could fly this cheap. Wow. There has to be a catch, right? Again, wow.

Sorry for bumping this very old thread, but I have been offered a three month internship in South Africa for the summer.
I'm not sure whether I will go or not; the cost of travel is one prohibitive factor. Since Agamemnon was successful in finding ridiculously cheap flights to Europe, I wonder if he (or anyone else) could find some cheap flights to Cape Town. I've been pretty unsuccessful thus far.
Dates I'm looking at are any time at the end of this month/early May and returning to Calgary no later than July 23. Calgary to Cape Town is the preferred itinerary. If flights are much cheaper for flights to/from Toronto and/or Johannesburg, I will also consider those options as well.
Cheers!
