Default Alberta Job Market

Good article on Alberta's boom and the job market.

http://www.albertaventure.com/abventure_4578.html

"Real Canadian Superstore, which needs 100 employees for Fort McMurray and Grande Prairie, has offered to pay folks from Halifax, no less, full airfare, $2,000 in moving expenses as well as first month's rent for basic retail positions."

"
He says even high-end Calgary restaurants can't find staff to peel carrots at $14 a hour."

"
If Fort McMurray, for example, can't find enough police officers to patrol its streets, teachers to tend its classrooms or doctors to serve in its hospitals, let alone staff for the local Superstore, who in their right mind will want to live there to build more oilsands projects?"

Has this reporter ever travelled to Ft Mac. 1400/month for a 1 bedroom apartment - thats why they are having trouble finding people.

The article is right in one aspect, if you cant find a job in Alberta you dont want to work.

Then there is work in the IT field in Lethbridge. Every job I've applied for has had stiff competition. One job I applied for had over 120 applicants, for Lethbridge that is an enourmous amount. I can easily get a job in Lethbridge for anything I want, but not for what I'm trained to do.

Edit: I do have an IT job, it is just at a small business and hence the pay isn't what I could or should be earning, but I love the job.

exactly.

and you've struck gold if you can even find a place, i've been there 3 times in the last 2 years, and the growth i've seen is stunning.

last trailer i looked at (not really really looking) was a cool quarter-million, houses are easily 300+ for nothing special.

make more, spend more, it's like monopoly money up there, camp jobs are the way to go!
