Heatherglen is open
Heatherglen (out on Glenmore, east of the city) opened up today. A quick heads up for those idiots like me who are going to play a round this weekend.

I work about a mile from the course, it's raining like mad, and apparently die hards are playing it on regulation tees and greens.

Yay!
You made me look- because I suck at golf I usually play city courses. Looks like this year you have to sign up for a card to book tee times, or else use your credit card to book.
Thank goodness. It sucked that people could book as many tee times as they wanted; as long as they had enough phone numbers to use.

16 degrees this weekend.......could be good. When do the city courses open? I can't wait to start spending hoards of money on artillery.

Just called Maple Ridge; they are planning on opening on Friday (weather permitting) on Friday; first come first serve.
They are on all temp greens.

Super, thanks for the headsup.
I played Heatherglen early in the season, end of April last year, and it was in pretty good shape on regular greens.
In fact it wasn't much different playing there again in July or August.
Temp greens suck (duh), soI'll wait to play regular greens on Maple Ridge and Shag. Was forced to play on them on Van Isl. Family Day long weekend...never again if I can.

I don't think I'm a purist by any means but I really hate playing on brown grass. I took advantage of the free golf survey deal at GlenEagles last year and froze my nards off one weekend, in addition to playing on pool table fairways. I recall hitting off a lot of teebox mats too...
I love golf as much as the next duffer but I just don't bother until the grass is green and it's at least 12 degrees. Quite frankly, range time would be better for me to shake off that rust than a round on the ground... (uhhh yeah.... "shake off"...like it comes off......)

I guess I'm different. I don't like to practice golf, I like to play it. That's how I look at going to the driving range.

To clarify, I guess I meant the 1st few rounds of the year. If I go now now after 6 months of not golfing, I can guarantee I can't even aim a 7-iron right. I'd rather dial my game in (snicker) on a range rather than thrash around on brown grass right now.
Come August, oh yeah, game over range anyday. That said, practice only helps. At least that's what that VJ feller sez.

This rain is really going to help the courses soften up and get green fast. If we can get a bit of heat after this rain stops we might have the best and earliest start to the golf season in a long time in Calgary.
We deserve it after missing all of June last year.
