Hosted by: Calgary Southside Midget 1
The third annual LEGACY Tournament will take place at the Okotoks Community Centre, 10 minutes south of Calgary. 6 spots reserved for Calgary area teams. Three games are guaranteed with the winners from each of the three groups, plus a wild card team moving to the semi finals Sunday morning. The two finalists will play Sunday afternoon for the Ben Albert Trophy. Following the championship game, presentations will include the Jeff Trickett MVP Award. You will enjoy two hour ice slots with a 'clean' after every two periods of play. Special rules concerning tie breakers and fighting are in effect during this tournament. Calgary Division 1 is roughly equivalent to "A" hockey in other parts of the province and age levels are mainly 16 - 17 year olds. In February of 2003, team mates and friends of that year's Southside Midget 1 team died in an avalanche in Revelstoke, B.C. To honour their lives, this tournament was created with a view to financially assisting other young students, while providing a highly competitive hockey event.
The host team derives no profits from this tournament. There is a significant fundraising effort associated with this event and all profits are added to the LEGACY BURSARY FUND. All participants in the Legacy Tournament are eligible and encouraged to apply for bursaries to assist in their pursuit of a recognised post secondary education. Winners are awarded through a random draw of eligible applications. Details of application requirements and tax receipted donations are available from the organizers and will be displayed in the tournament program.
