Dude, I was like that until my wife kicked my butt to the Doctors office. That was 8 years ago, now I annually (unless somethings else happens during the year).

I hope everything goes well for you.

I was in a similar boat a few years back, and finally went in complaining of bad stomach troubles. Turns out I have fairly high 'Acid Overproduction', in layman's-terms (can't remember the fancy name she had for it). Anyhow, it causes a wicked ache in your gut over time, and had me thinking something really serious was up.

Solution was over-the-counter Ranitidine 75 (sometime sold as Zantac) twice a day until it cleared up, and then once a day or as needed. I've been trouble free going on three years.

Chances are its far less serious than you've imagined and easier to treat. Hope all goes well.

I have a fear of finding out if I need surgery or whatnot (knee, shoulder...etc) just because of the time it would take me away from my sports.

Other than that, I go for regular check ups. My great uncle died of cancer because he was too embarassed to get it checked out or treated. I'm not going to put my family through that.

well maybe just maybe your fears are founded in fact fotze? Could be you have 3rd stage stomach cancer? Did you or do you smoke? Maybe its lung cancer? Do you cough a bit? Whatabout when you pee? Is it yellow? Yellow pee is a bad sign....means you drink too much and could have liver damage.

Nah dont go....you wouldnt want any bad news anyways!

Is it normal for it to hurt when you pee?

Seriously, going to the doctor will produce one of 2 results, everything is OK, or there's something wrong.

Not going will also produce the same results. The difference being that if you don't go, and you are actually OK, then you will still sit there lying awake wondering if you are dying.

Along the same lines, how do you find a good doctor if the one you had is gone? I am almost 43 and haven't been for a physical in about ten years. I called for an appointment one time and was told that my doctor was in intensive care and may not ever come back. He never came back and I never went back. I made an effort once to get a new doc, set up an appointment with what I thought was a specialist in "sports medicine" and it turns out he was a specialist in "geriatrics". Turns out that those are two very different fields of medicine, who knew! Haven't been to anything but a walk in clinic since and they are brutal. I'd really like to find a new doctor and get back to regular checkups but procrastination gets the best of some of us.

And you'll probably develop an ulcer doing so.

I'd go to the doctor if I were you, fotze.

I've had a lump on my ankle for years and I always worried that it was cancerours but was too scared to go see a doctor about it. Finally, just over a year ago, when I had pnemonia, I also decided to ask the doctor to check out the lump on my ankle. I can't remember the name he called it but he said that it is benign and I'd only have to worry about having it removed if it started to bother me.

It doesn't make you any less of a man to go see a doctor for your ailments. Unless you've got penis cancer and they have to cut it off!

hey brother, always remember this:

it doesnt get better on its own, and it almost always gets worse...

maybe you have a subconcious fear of the dr that you are using?

at any rate, like those spike tv ads say, check in or check out. do it now, and, god forbid, if something is going on, youll have a much better chance of catching and fixing it.

Yeah you just described me to a tee. My g/f can go in for the stirrup check, but mention the nether regions around me and I run.

That being said I missed out on surfing in Bali last year due to an elbow infection that needed surgery. If I had of gone in right away oral antibiotics would have taaken care of it, but seeing as I ignored the problem I ended up having to get 4 days on an IV drip, and a surgery that left hole in my elbow. The worst part was sitting on a beach in Indo not being able to go into the ocean.....

Men are funny. My dad was the same way until half my family died off from colon cancer. He went and immediately they found cancer. I've been going in for scopes since I was 18. Nothing like some super laxative and starvation to make me want to go once every couple years! Seriously though, it's saved my cousin's life already, and I've no doubt it will save either me or my siblings at some point. Am I scared they'll find something? Petrified! But I'd rather they find it and fix it than let it grow into a larger problem.

Being someone who works at a hospital, PLEASE I beg everyone to go get checked out. I see way way too many people dying because they are too afraid/proud/embarassed to go to the doc. You are never too young, old, healthy, what have you to be very ill.

Fotze, I don't know you, your symptoms or your family history but I am going to assume you are still relatively young (<50 year) without any major risks. Having said that, I can tell you right now that you do not have cancer.

The majority of all GP visits are essentially patients seeking reassurance in some form that they are not going to DIE, and this is natural. Common things being very common, my guess is that you have indigestion/acid reflux/GERD and you will be put on a trial of ranitidine or losec or something similar. Even if its an ulcer, that's fine as its treated the same with the addition of antibiotics. All the wierd and wonderful that you read about on the internet is far from representative of the actual population based frequency, let alone of groups without specific risk factors. Secondly, you have to question the validity of what is on the internet...it is a totally unregulated body of information that any nut-case can add to, so what you read may very well be fiction or out of context. Be brave my friend, and do not fear the lone finger!

To those of you in Calgary looking for GP's that are accepting patients, here is a link:

http://www.calgaryhealthregion.ca/doctor/index.html

If you want to go to another GP who is "not accepting", but you are related to one of their patients, military, fireman, health care worker or police, you might want to mention it as some docs make special accepting concessions for these groups.

That's a bold statment. From someone whose sister had a mild stomache crap to watching her die two years later, I'm going to say don't make assumptions. She was 20 when the first pains began. Sure, that's an oddity, but not so rare anymore.

Regardless of the outcome, you have two choices:
Go to the Dr and find out if something is wrong, (hopefully there isn't anything wrong and you go on your merry way,) and if there is, have them fix it, OR
Don't go, and know nothing and live in a constant state of fear over something, and potentially leave Fotze Jr without a dad.

Buck up and quit being a pansy.

Firefly, you illustrate exactly my point. People only hear about the horrible stories, and never the millions of stories where everything was normal. It creates a false sense of danger and applicability to yourself. You lose the proper perspective about life and death in general. If people even realised just how dangerous it is to drive each day, relative to everything else that can hurt you in life, I think they would be extremely surprised.

And I am sorry for your loss, but your sisters case was definitely rare, and just as rare as it was 20 years ago.

I've measured my blood pressure a few times this last week and its been around 140/90. Not good for a 24 year old. Just last September it was 120/75.

D-day is Wednesday, my stomach will be in knots until then.

I went in this morning and now I'm getting the boys snipped in April, he drew a bunch of pictures and made me feel really uncomfortable. It's alright to joke with your buddies and stuff about your junk but when some dude tells you with diagrams what he's going to do to the boys, it's just not right.
