Well, every now and then I come across a cool bit of movie news that I'd like sharing with the board, but I stop because it isn't big enough to warrent its own thread. So, let's start a movie thread and keep it going with all sorts of movie talk.
Katie Holmes won't be back for the Batman Begins sequel. Looks like the films creators didn't like all the negative press her and midget boy toy Tom Cruise were creating.
http://www.paramountcomedy.com/inconceivab...cle/repa/id~112
Verdict: Good, I really enjoyed the film but she isn't that good of an actor and brought the film down from the fantastic acting of Bale, Freeman, Oldman, and Michael Caine.
More Sequel News, it looks like a follow up to the hit Sin City will be made. This is pretty cool news as it is probably the best movie of 2005 so far. There are alot of Sin City stories out there by Frank Miller so it should be just as fantastic. A story cut from the first movie featuring Johnny Depp will hopefully be put back in.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3 are currently shooting at the same time. All the major players are back. I loved the first one and can't wait to see these two films.
http://actionadventure.about.com/od/.../aa062604b.htm
Elf 2 is set to be made. They are currently writing up a draft for it. I liked the first one, it was an adorable Christmas movie. I love the holiday season so another one should be great.
So here we go, any movie news you wish to discuss, but don't think it's big enough to warrent its own thread.. throw it in here!
I figure all of these news bits would only get one, maybe two replies by themselves.. but in a bigger thread people can avoid talking about movies if they wish. So give it a go, any news ya got? Gotta be more movie geeks then just me in here.

Speaking of Batman, anyone seen The Machinist?
I've been thinking of renting it, but have went home with something else the last couple of times.

Katie Holmes won't be terribly missed by me... but speaking of the Batman Begins sequel does anyone have any thoughts on who might play the Joker?? I've been racking my brain trying to come up with candidates and nobody seems to fit.
Good news about Sin City, although I'd prefer if the entire movie were just one story.
Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3 being made is very exciting news. There are far too few good pirate movies out there and the more of Keira Knightly I see the better. She should be in the next Batman... as Harlequin.

I think Johnny Depp could play an amazing Joker, but he has his plate pretty darn full at the moment. I can't come up with anyone else..
Moving on a bit, has another seen Election? It's by Alexander Payne (Sideways, About Schmidt) I really want to see it but haven't been able to find it.

How are they going to make a sequel for Batman? At the end of Batman Begins they set it up for the first Michael Keaton movie with Jack Nicholson as the Joker... why would they make another? That is the only other good Batman movie.

Batman Begins wasn't a prequel, it is a whole new set of movies. The plotlines, stories, etc of the new Batman movie have nothing to do with the Tim Burton and Joel Shumacher Batman movies (thank god)

I think that rumour has been started by Batman fans.. because Hamill has done the voice of the Joker for teh cartoon for some time now. I honestly doubt he will be the joker.. his acting skills are horrible.

Saw Mr and Mrs Smith. Although Angelina is well deserved of her uber babe status (including one scene as a dominatrix...hmmm never would have pictured that) this was a great cast that needed a decent script. It could have been a True Lies 2 - instead it was this bizarre cross of "War of the Roses" and a cheap John Woo movie. Without giving anything away, the last scene is so inexplicably fromage that Velveeta seems bland.
But Angelina...

Election is a great show MMF, you'd love it. Reese Witherspoon is fantastic in it, and it's good for a few genuine laughs. One of those comedies that has just the right tone, and great acting.
Here's a couple I'm looking forward to:
The Fountain (directed by Darren Aronofsky, starring Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz)
Jarhead (by Sam Mendes, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Jamie Foxx)
And for those of you who still haven't seen "Crash," I know it's already been discussed here, but go see it. What a movie.

Saw this a few nights ago.
The physical transformation Bale underwent is one of the most stunning sights I have ever seen. Decent movie, but his transformation should garner him an oscar - it was a sight to behold.

Great movie! I highly recommend Election. I believe Reese was nominated for a Golden Globe with this role.

Thanks Ro, Mango, I'll keep trying to find it.
Hearing Reeth Witherspoon did a good job in the movie is nice to hear. She played June Carter Cash in the new Johnny Cash bio pic coming out in November, and I was worried about that casting choice.

Count me in on the Election fan club. What a wicked movie. Matthew Broderick was just perfect in that role.
How about Anthony Hopkins as the new Joker?

MMF - I've seen the DVD a bunch of times at the HMV in Westhills going for pretty cheap: $9.99 or $12.99

I saw this yesterday:
Mrs. Doubtfire 2
How do they even make a sequel to that? It's supposedly Robin Williams again, so what could the story possibly be... his kids would be like 25 now, and hopefully his ex wife wouldn't be fooled a 2nd time by him dressed up as a woman. I don't get it!

I bet you $100 it's Bonnie Hunt dressing up like a man. Why do they make sequels to movies like 10 years later?

Anyone seen City of God? It came out in 2003, but I just saw it a month or so ago. For all you people that like guns, sex, violence, more guns, kids with guns, lots of gang warfare.....then I would HIGHLY recommend renting this movie.
