I'm a bit surprised that there aren't a few more comments in this thread. Ames was absolutely rock solid yesterday. He hit his driver and put it on the fairways. His iron play was rock solid and his putting was really good too. He hit one shot short on 10 that resulted in a bad lye and a double bogey. A bad drive on 14 that he recovered from with a great par put, but other than that he was bang on. Considering how the other top players around him fared and the pressure that a tourney like that would put on you his play was outstanding. After he gave two back on 10 and saw his 5 shot lead down to two he could have folded right there. But he came right back on 11 with a great drive got on in two and made the birdie which set him up to go 5 under on the next 6 holes. It was like he was playing a different course than the other guys. It reminded me of last years US open where Michael Campbell played great on the last day while everyone else around him wilted away. Hopefully Ames has this game for the Masters, as thats exactly the type of play that will win at Augusta.
