Strep Throat
Anyone else have it before?
Turns out I have it on top of a bad flu. Tested negative for pneumonia thank god.
On penicillin and tylenol right now. Was having trouble breathing yesterday and couldn't feel my head, abdomen, or arms. After waiting 5 hours in emergency, they give me a paper bag and tell me I was hyperventilating. Apparently numbness is from a lack of CO2 in the blood.
Anyways, anyone have tips for strep throat? Having trouble drinking water and eating solids.
What are some good things to eat and drink? What should I stay away from?

Oh yes, I've had it. In fact, I'm a carrier. The worst was Strep/Flu/Chicken Pox all at once when I was a kid.
I find cold water is usually the easiest to drink. For eating, soft boiled eggs are great. You can buy Cepacol throat lozenges which can provide a bit of temporary relief from the soreness if its not totally out of hand. Just lie low, get tonnes of sleep.
Get better!

Strep throat is hell.
In the few times I've had it - mercifully - I've always found good ole chicken noodle soup hits the spot . . . . . but mostly its a time to feel pain and feel sorry for yourself as well as stay awake 24 hours a day for about a week wallowing in indescribable, constricting pain.
For the sake of all humanity, stay away from other people.

How long were you off work on average?
I just tried some warm water with honey and it's going down pretty well. I found cold water is pure pain in a glass.

Tea with honey is good too. I'd say be ready to miss 2-5 days of work, 5 being that you have it really bad and first missed a Monday.

Strep sucks, it has to be one of the worst symtoms of any illness, trouble breathing, etc. I've had it about 5-6 times before. Make sure you take every last drop of your medicine or it has a chance of coming back.
For medicine, Sucrets or Cepacol throat losenges work really well and help relieve some of the pain.

I had strep this winter along with pnemonia. I was off work for about 2 or 3 weeks.
I found McDonalds easy enough to eat. All that grease.
Also get yourself some Vicks Cloroseptic spray. Numbs the throat for about 30 minutes at a time so you can eat.

I found that I was out of it for about 5 weeks, but after 2 and a half I went back to work (since I work for myself and by myself it was no big deal - no chance to spread it).. I ended up not taking any anti-biotics for it, though my gf did. She ended up getting strep 3 more times before the year was out and it did not return for me. I DO NOT recomend you do that though, FOLLOW YOUR DOCTORS ADVICE. I just felt that I would let my body fight it since I was not as hard hit as the previous times I had it and it worked, I've not had it for a couple of years even though I was getting it for three or four years before that. Feel better, drink LOTS of water, an over the counter throat spray helped me a little, and others have said, sleep is the best thing.

I had it in grade 11, it hurt to talk, breathe, eat, drink, etc. It took about a week or so for it to go away, the ability to eat again was such a relief. I found it'd still crave my favourite foods but was unable to eat them (whereas when I usually get sick I don't crave anything).
Strep Throat is hell, wish you all the best in a fast recovery

I have had strep a few times- first year of university was the killer, so many people touching everything and if you let your gaurd down then bam you are sick.
Take all the medicine. If it doesn't go away then tell the doctor you need the high test antibiotics. I got them and it cleared up in 2 days.

Strep sucks. I get it fairly regularly. I enjoy rye and ginger...seriously. Helps soothe the throat and helps me fall asleep to boot.
