Harper fires Chef and Chef sues!
As the Soup thickens!!!!!!!
On or about Dec. 17, 2005, believing the Conservatives would win the general election, the Defendant, Laureen Harper, offered the Plaintiff employment as head chef at 24 Sussex Drive," the claim alleges. It says Lundsgaard, who had been working as head chef at Stornoway since 2001, accepted and was allegedly told by the PM's wife he would have to re-outfit the kitchen. There was no written contract.
The plot, or perhaps we should say the soup, thickens.
Just a few weeks later, on Jan. 23, Lundsgaard received a short termination letter, which offered no explanation from either of the Harpers, the claim alleges.
Then, in late February, Harper poached Rideau Hall chef Oliver Bartsch to man the kitchen at 24 Sussex for a reported salary of $73,000 to $79,000.
Lundsgaard, who started working for the federal government under Day at $50,000 a year, was making $57,000 a year by October 2004, the claim states. It alleges the Harpers led him to believe his job was secure right up until he was filleted. Under the Harpers, Lundsgaard's role expanded to include odd jobs such as washing their car, driving their kids to school, supervising the kids in a backyard pool, cleaning their cat's litter box and even "attending to the burial of one of the cats after its demise," the claim alleges. Playing video games with the kids, cleaning up after guests, moving furniture at Stornoway and serving drinks were also allegedly on the expanded menu for Lundsgaard.
