A Little Help From The Computer Gurus

My old computer had Zonealarm for a firewall on it. I have bought a new computer and the guy at the computer store told me not to put it on this computer, just to use a router as it is better. Is this right? I have a router now, but wondering if I should add a software firewall as well. Are there any other security programs I should be putting on my new computer? Don't want to get it diseased or hacked. Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

With a router you don't need to have a firewall software solution on your computer taking up system resources... as long as your router is configured properly and not left wide open but nothing is 100% effective.
