The New York Times reported that Lay's stated net worth is now less than $650,000, down from as much as $400 million before Enron's downfall in 2001.

Its a long drop from the penthouse to the outhouse.

But that's still $650,000 more than a lot of retirees have as a result of his decisions.

I watched the documentary "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room". I highly recommend it.

An excellent documentary...I agree - highly recommend. Not nearly as nerdy as you might think and an excellent human interest story - I remain amazed to this day at the relative ease this fraud was pulled off.

And...if you want to know why Ahhnuld is gov. of California - lets just say we can thank Lay, Skilling and the boys at Enron for not having to watch Terminator IV.

IN the Herald today there is one of those " in the paper 100 years ago today" type things -- an editorial about a President of an insurance company who had ripped off the company and he was getting his just desserts by, umm, dying.

A year ago, a Vancouver newspaper was sued for libel for merely intimating that something was wrong with the McCall administration. Now, nothing is too vile to attribute to the miserable old man dying amid the riches he is openly charged with having acquired by pelf.

It's got nothing to do with Enron, but it's kind of funny to see how they treated a white-collar criminal back in the day.

Pelf: Wealth or riches, especially when dishonestly acquired.

What a great word. Pelf. I'm going to remember that one. I like words.
