As a kid I liked him in Mike Hammer, everthing else wasn't so good. Maybe because I got older, still some good memories.

I used to watch Mike Hammer in grade 8 after I would come home from school!

Sad to see another good actor go.

McGavin starred in the private eye series "Mike Hammer" in the 1950s. In 1968 he told a reporter: "Hammer was a dummy. I made 72 of those shows, and I thought it was a comedy. In fact, I played it camp. He was the kind of guy who would've waved the flag for George Wallace."

I had no idea those shows were taped in the 50s. I thought they were made in the 70s or 80s.

Mike Hammer was remade in the 80s starring Stacy Keach

Great role as the grumpy dad in "A Christmas Story". Still a classic that we watch every December

That's the only role I know him from.
