Anti-Gay Protesters at Military Funerals
This seems like a really bizarre and misguided way for a religous group promote their agenda.

Quote:
Phelps believes American deaths in Iraq are divine punishment for a country that he says harbors homosexuals. His protesters carry signs thanking God for so-called IEDs -- explosives that are a major killer of soldiers in Iraq.
Shirley Phelps-Roper, a daughter of Fred Phelps and an attorney for the Topeka, Kansas-based church, said neither state laws nor the Patriot Guard can silence their message that God killed the soldiers because they fought for a country that embraces homosexuals.
"The scriptures are crystal clear that when God sets out to punish a nation, it is with the sword. An IED is just a broken-up sword," Phelps-Roper said. "Since that is his weapon of choice, our forum of choice has got to be a dead soldier's funeral."

It's kind of fitting I think. Bizarre and misguided people doing bizarre and misguided things.
This Phelps crowd came up to Calgary a few years ago to protest about something or other. It was kind of pathetic really, 5 or 6 greyhairs sitting in lawnchairs holding hand-scrawled signs about how god hates this group or that group. You might have felt sorry for them if they weren't so terrifically stupid.

This is the idiocy of religion I will never understand. According to religious types, god created everything, so he must have created homosexuals......ah why even bother.

Thing is, they're using such crazy ideas, not because they may or may not believe what they say, but it gets crazy media attention when you go after gays and soldiers and say some cooky stuff.
Good on the bikers. I just wish they would stop flag waving, and do a little more ass kicking.
How much worse could it be... your son/daughter was killed in a war in iraq, and some nuts have the audacity to say that crap?... AT THE FUNERAL!

Anyone who would protest at a funeral deserves to get curbied. If they can't respect the value of human life and realize that the person being mourned at the funeral was a human being who was loved then they deserve to cushion the coffin in the funeral plot.

Phelps' group has been extremely active locally as you might imagine, him being from Topeka (****hole town, fitting) and all. There are several groups of bikers who do nothing but go to military funerals and set up blockades so that Phelps' crazies can't be seen or heard by the mourners. Those are good people.
I love freedom of speech and all, but I'd like to see Phelps suffer some gruesome fate. The worst kind of person I can imagine.

What a bunch of ass backwards lunatics. I've read about Phelps and his posse of religious nutjobs, but I'm always amazed at how far they'll go.
Great job on the parts of those bikers though, that's a really noble thing to do.
