JETS WIN HUGE GAME VS FLYERS!
The Jets were lead by backup tender Jani Hurme today. Making his first start since being acquired from the Swampmen, Hurme stopped 22 shots to pick up his 7th win of the season and first as a Jet. "Our defence keep the shots to the outside and allowed me to see everything" said Hurme.
The Jets got offence from unlikely sources today. 4th line winger Ivan Novoseltsev scored twice including the game winner just 2:38 into the game, a goal that came just 34 seconds after Pierre Turgeon scored his first as a Jet. The other Jet goal was scored by Wes Walz, who now has 18 goals on the year.
The win moves the Jets into a tie for 5th place in the conference, 2 points up on 9th place Detroit. The Jets get tomorrow off before playing the first of a back to back vs the Sabres starting Wednesday night.

Koivu less than impressive in his 1st game as a Canadien. However, the Cheechoo/Richards/Ponikorovsky line salvaged the game for the Habs. Combining with defense pairing Hal Gill and Marek Zidlicky the line created all three goals for the Habs. Richards was the hero scoring his second of the night in OT, but all 5 players were +3 on the night. The Koivu line, while firing 11 shots, failed to score. They were also responsible for both goals created by the Devils.

Well we had a 2-0 lead and did our Calgary Flames impression eventually blowing it and losing the game 3-2 in OT. We got goals from a bum in Cairns and an over achiever in Asham. Mike Dunham was decent turning aside 32 of 35 shots for the loss. We did gain a point on the Flyers in an attempt to move our pick to number 6 overall instead of number 5.

Eddie blanks new mates!!
Ed Belfour was not very nice to his new team as he shut the door on teh Pens and the Sens trounced the Pens 5-0, in probably the most one sided loss all year. The good news is that Eddie "Buzzhead" will be in a Pens uni on wednesday as they hope to leave off where Theo left the team on a winning note.

Belfour shuts to door then bolts out of it.
One could say Belfours stay in ottawa was a very productive one. Not sure what some GM's Beef with him is. He was a model only allowing 3 goals in 3 games played.
The game itself saw Kozlov score 2. Wilson score. Nedved score his 20th, and boynton is 9th. even more important we got the win.
Next up the Wings in 2 days time

Sabres Win Another Close One
Outshoot Lightning by fair margin, yet win by one
Sabres continue to squeeze out the wins, usually by one goal, as they are now 8-2 in their last 10 after beating T Bay 3-2.
Looooob got a little fancy mixing the lines around before this game, and it was almost too much...still the top line with Smolinski and Prospal and --for this night at least--Fedotenko continued to get the job done, Prospal scored twice. The 4th line with Riku Hahl, Sami Pahlsson and CPHL allstar Grant Marshall scored the other goal. The 2nd and 3rd lines struggled and will likely be juggled again.
It was a curious , penalty filled, affair, at one point in the 3rd the Sabres took 6 straight minors in 5 minutes:
PENALTIES: N. HAGMAN LIG (HIGHSTICKING, Major) 02:24, M. HOLMQVIST LIG (UNSPORTSMANLIKE-CONDUCT, Minor) 03:52, B. MORROW SAB (ROUGHING, Minor) 03:52, B. SMOLINSKI SAB (CHARGING, Minor) 05:21, S. PAHLSSON SAB (CROSS-CHECKING, Minor) 05:59, A. MILLER SAB (BOARDING, Minor) 07:16, M. LECLERC SAB (BOARDING, Double Minor) 09:19, G. JOHNSON LIG (ROUGHING, Minor) 12:29, C. KILGER LIG (HOOKING, Minor) 14:42, M. GARON LIG (CHARGING, Double Minor) 17:32 (Served by Mike Weaver), C. KILGER LIG (BOARDING, Minor) 18:05, B. MORROW SAB (HIGHSTICKING, Minor) 18:05
But they weathered the storm
Sabres stay in 7th, 3 points up on 9th. Next up is an intriguing home and home with the upstart Winnipeg Jets

ISLES SQUASH LEAFS

Islanders defenceman Alexander Karpovtsev pins Toronto forward Marc Savard along the boards Monday night.
TORONTO, ON - Tomas Vokoun made 34 saves and was named the game's first star as the Islanders rolled over the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Air Canada Centre by a score of 5-1.
It was a game where everything was going right for the Islanders, while on the other end of the ice, everything was going wrong for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Islanders' best players were their best players paced by a pair of goals from both Paul Kariya and Mark Parrish, while their number one goalie played exactly how they expect him to play stopping 34 of the 35 shots he faced for his 29th victory of the season.
It was a fairly even game Monday night between Toronto and New York with the Leafs holding the advantage in play in the first period while the Islanders took over the control in the second period.
Despite outshooting the Islanders by a 13-6 margin in the opening stanza, the Islanders were the ones who escpaed the period with the 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Mark Parrish (34) and Marcel Hossa (17) on the powerplay, while Bates Battaglia opened the scoring with his 16th of the season at 10:18.
Mark Parrish, who leads the Isles after Monday's game with 81 points, would score again in the second period on the powerplay flipping a Marek Svatos rebound over a sprawled Henrik Lundqvist giving the Islanders a 3-1 lead.
Paul Kariya set a CPHL record in the third period scoring a pair of goals 9 seconds apart to put the Isles up 5-1. On his first goal, the speedy winger took a Jiri Hudler pass on his off-wing and beat former Islander Richard Jackman wide before cutting back in front of the net, waited for Lundqvist to drop down and fired a high shot into the top corner. Off the ensuing face off, Hudler broke in off a nifty face off steal and after beating Jackman again with a pretty inside-outside deke, fed a streaking Kariya for the one-timer who made no mistake getting a shot through the legs of the Toronto netminder.
The goal finished off the scoring and happened to also end the night for Henrik Lundqvist who was pulled in favour of Manny Fernandez.
With the victory, the Isles remain three points up on the 10th place Canadiens who also won Monday night in overtime over the New Jersey Devils, and are now two points behind the Carolina Hurricanes who host the Capitals tomorrow evening.
With 12 games left in the season, the Isles are in tough to make the post-season and will have to win the majority of their remaining games just to stand a chance. Fortunately for the Isles, their destiny is somewhat in their hands with two games remaining against a team they are chasing, the New York Rangers, who they'll face off with next on Wednesday.
