Favourite Places to Travel
So I'm sitting here at work, bored, tired, and wanting to travel somewhere. I can't leave right now, so the second best thing is to at least talk about it. I'd like to find out where other people's favourite places are to go and maybe I'll fit it into my travel plans.
Here are my Top Three (I could easily have a Top 10):
1) The coast of Croatia south of Split - Absolutely stunning.
2) Istanbul, Turkey - Just because I'd never seen anything like it before. It was so different for me.
3) Rome, Italy - cliche, yeah, I know. It was my very first big European city and the pub crawls there are awesome.

Rome is awesome. Love that place.
I'd cast a vote for Paris as well. So much to do there, so much to see.

Moab, Utah. Anyone who mountain bikes needs to go. It is equal to the hype.

I found Shanghi, China to be a very interesting place to go. Most people don't even speak a single word of English, so before you arrive, you need the name of your hotel printed out on a piece of paper.
Of course, the cab driver we had from the airport to the hotel was illiterate, so we had to point out on a map where to go as we got lost driving around Shanghi. Took far too long to get there.
Also, take cabs, they are cheap and the last thing you ever want to do is drive in China. Even being a passanger you are scared to death.
Still, fun and interesting trip.

I'm constantly amazed at the amount of travel abroad that people here have done. Where do you get the money? Must be young, rich and have no responsibilities.
My favorite place to travel is the Flathead Valley in Montana. There's no place like home. Especially when you live in Kansas now. UGH.
I can also second Habby's Moab suggestion. Have been there a dozen times or more. I had relatives who lived 20 miles away from Moab for years and years. Lots to do and very few people.
My biggest travel desire is Alaska. I'd like to spend about a month touring that state.
What can I say, I'm not a big sun and beaches guy. Give me mountains, clear water and fresh crisp air. That's what it's all about!

Well I know I'm trying to get it out of my system, while I don't have strings attached (aka. family) and its easier to travel.
I pounded out the numbers for a possible Europe trip, 3 weeks, under $5000. If we (me and friends) have less time (due to summer jobs), Tibet is the other option, and will likely be under $6000 as well.

Laos is amazing.
Thailand is more mainstream and easier to explore, one the easiest places on earth especially if you are a first time traveller, and if you get past the major tourist districts it is still remote and breathtaking. Harder to find that each year though...
NYC is a MUST see place too. And now that Air Canada offers relativily cheap direct flights via JFK there is no excuse for not having been for at least a weekend trip!!

my girl's from Japan and I went there twice. I went the first time for 1 month in the summer of 04, then I went again at the end of January for her brother's wedding.
It was dope seeing all the old castles, temples and shrines.
The people are friendly and interested in Canadians.
Liquor is cheap and readily available 24/7 at your local 7-11. About 1.50 for a can of beer.
The food is good.

Man, I can't imagine having that kind of cash to spend on whatever I wanted. Is University way cheaper up there or something?

Well UofA has been quite generous in scholarships and stuff.
So that allows me to travel using things like student loans and summer job money
I'm on a 8 month internship next year, so at the end of that, that's 8 months of pay I have to travel. Hopefully good pay.

Cheese, i couldn't agree more. When I went there, i was amazed at how nice it was, the beaches were amazing. The best thing about Portugal though, was the people. They were all so friendly and always helped us out. I wish i could go back there. A couple of my other favourite places include Montreal, London and Manchester. I would love to go to India and Japan.

I did an East Africa trip last year. Kenya Tanzania, Zanzibar. It was awesome. It's my only time overseas so I would have to rate it as my favourite travel spot.
