I think the whold idea of cap going down is a myth. It's the T.V. money which is rumored to be dropping from 3 to 2 million per year. So big whoop, any team that makes the playoffs will have as much or more money to spend next year as they do this year. I don't blame agents in the least for at least wanting to test the free agency waters. NHL players opt for the money 90% of the time so why should CPHL players be any different.

You make a good point. However, there are other factors at work as well - specifically the IR players: Currently there is $1742M on active rosters and 177M on the IR (league totals) If you take league averages (AHL and CPHL salaries of .8M and 2.48M respectively) thats approximately 72 players on IR and (assuming a one for one call up) it works out to 120M to be added to CPHL overall salaries.
So total commited CPHL $s is 1742+120M = $1862M
61M * 32 teams is $1952 a difference of 90M
So, even taking into account the playoff bonuses, sponsorships and other awards it works out to amounts in the neighbourhood of 150M split by 32 teams, or approximately 5M per team. While I expect every agent to try and get the biggest slice of pie they can for their client, I argue that the pie might not be as big as anticipated. Sometimes those in the front of the buffet line get the most to eat.
I'm hungry now, I leave you all to digest that.
