Danielle Goyette of the women's hockey team. She turns 40 on Monday. Quite the story.
Goyette has played on the national team since 1992. She didn't start playing the game until age 15 and she never practised until the age of 30. Her hockey development came later in life, which is one of the reasons for her longevity in the sport.
Seems like a good choice. 3rd Olympics. I can already smell what Don Cherry is going to say.
If we were going hockey I would have prefered a guy to carry the flag but after all the drama surrounding people asking to have their name removed from consideration it is good that we finally got someone that actually seems to want to do it.
Bob McCowan on Primtime had an excellent idea a few weeks ago. Why not have a former Olympian carry the torch. Someone like Elizabeth Manley, Gaetan Boucher, Karen Percy (oh wait is she still married to Kevin Lowe, maybe not her), so on.
