Averaging in the incomes of Elton John, George Michael, Boy George, the late Freddy Mercury etc, probably skews things.

I remember reading a few years back that as a market, the gay demographic has a higher IQ and higher income than average. It was an American publication talking about how advertisers really wanted to get a foothold in that demographic.

My guess, since most don't have children, they can devote more energy to their career.

Maybe. I've also heard that a higher % of gay people go to university. People who do that, regardless of seckshull orientation, end up making more loot on average than people who didn't.

and the #1 reason is that gay guys date men not women, there is no additional stress about answering "does this dress make me look fat" every second day and all the other things women do to stress guys out.

Seriously, I've never asked a man that. If it makes me look fat, I already know and put something else on.
However, there is probably a more equal division of labour in the home, creating a less hostile environment, which leads to better productivity at work. This is generally caused by a lack of fixed gender roles, and an ongoing negotiation about who does what in the home.

Well yeah, I completely agree, there's the more sensible explanation versus my response in jest

ack, i almost missed this, damn school
anyway, I have a thought on it as I was thinking of this the other day and actually wrote this out on paper about my gay friends. I have 18 ppl I consider close that are gay and another 25 that are on a first name basis with (including ex's). It's a small sample, but the ones I know that didn't drop out of high school, that are done University, are all doing really well and living very comfortably with great jobs. The other ones are struggling big time. But there's no middle ground, out of 43 ppl, none of them are just doing ok, it's feast or famine. Now that may seem obvious, that you won't do as well when you drop out, but it's interesting that drawng a line on this paper of the people I know (ranging in age 19-48) the ones who stuck with school advanced quickly at work and all of them are are making decent coin and the other ones just can't get their lives together.
As far as children, I'd love to adopt one or two one day, I mean there are enough people growing up without a loving home that I know I could give (with the right mate though).

I guess a lot of people glossed over a significant part of the article:
Quote:
Gay men working full time earn on average 34,200 pounds per year, compared with the national average for men of 24,800 pounds, according to a survey of 1,118 readers of Diva and Gay Times.
|
Chances are if you have enough disposable income to buy Diva and Gay Times magazine, you're going to be earning more money then average. The gay guy who's making minimium wage isn't going to be spending money on a magazine like that.
